I hope the new PM is kind to Larry the Cat

Andy Burnham has one dog who is a rescue dog call Axel. He is a little, bichon frise poodle mix who, according to Andy Burham, suffers from little man syndrome.

A firm paw may be needed.

Number 10 is Larry's home. He has lived there longer than anyone else. He will tolerate the dogs. Has little respect for them but he has had to endure worse creatures.

There are about 100 rooms at 10 Downing Street, so given the PM lives in a flat, and Larry is looked after by the staff not the PM, I think he will be fine. Both Sunak and Johnson had dogs when they were PM, so he’s used to them.

Faxgran As Larry is 19, I think he should retire on a generous Civil Service pension before the dreaded canines move in.

The Burnhams have two dogs, so it might be retirement for Larry.

RVKICR I don't think Larry is bothered by any stowaway boat cats arriving, they don't usually like water. And the winter fuel allowance doesn't affect him because he has a fur coat.

Larry could not do worse than Starmer; boats still arriving despite what he said about "smashing the gangs". First winter in power and the Winter Fuel Allowance was stopped unless you had Pension Credit only to be brought back with an over generous bench mark. Those on low pensions but just above the line did not get that Winter Fuel Allowance back for 2024. IMO we need a General Election

Pretty sure Larry could do a better job then the PM's he has had to share his home with !!!

Photo of Larry in the paper yesterday showed him looking rather tatty. Cats in very old age often stop taking care of themselves properly. I hope someone in that place is keeping a loving eye on him.

I am unfortunately allergic to catfur so a dog person rather than a cat person but I do think that they are beautiful creatures. I love the idea that dogs have owners and " cats have staff".
It's a slight exaggeration (as all the best stereotypes are). My last dog was very independent in the sense that he had his limits(e.g; he hated anyone to touch his legs) and I was devoted to him and he knew it so I was never sure who owned who......

Larry IS the PM. The others are his staff.

At least he’ll keep the rats from hanging around.

He really is an icon, and a beautiful cat to boot - and this is from me, not really a cat person.

Boris Johnson said that Larry used to bully his dog Dillon too.

I read Larry's bulletins on Youtube regularly, he has a very firm grip on what is going on at Number Ten.

He was born in 2007 and rescued from Battersea by David Cameron in 2011. His official title is Chief Mouser.

When Trump visited Downing Street in 2019, Larry refused to come out from under Trump's car and delayed the schedule.

I just hope Andy Burnham shows him the respect he deserves as one of the longest serving members of staff at Number Ten.

I have every faith in Larry, he's seen umpteen come and go, I don' think he cares who they are, or what 4 legged creatures they bring with them, he knows it's house and he'll still be there come what May, yeah saw her off, didn't like the Kitten heels! and Palmerston, the cat that is not the politician, he's not that old
