My heart goes out to the Jewish community in Golders Green.

I utterly condemn these attacks and wish the stabbing victims a full and speedy recovery.

I agree they far right behaviour of the the progressives, the green party and those on the marches has stoked this situation.

I also think those marches to support Palestine should be halted for a while, simply out of respect for British Jewish communities, if nothing else.

I support normal Palestinian people, but never ever to the detriment of Jews.

I don’t support Hamas, I don’t support Netanyahu nor Trump.

It’s appalling to target normal people going about their daily business.

It’s a scary time, but then again u worked in the square mule during the IRA bombings, we were all just normal people going to work. Buildings extremely close to mine were targeted. Theatres etc had massive security measures in place, trains were forever delivered and platforms emptied because someone had left a bag behind. My mother was anxious on a daily basis as both my DF and myself (their only child) worked within City.

Us humans can behave on an appalling way, sadly this behaviour of targeting totally innocent people isn’t new. That doesn’t make it right!

I just heard on the news, driving along, that the Comissioner said we now have a pandemic of antisemitism in this country.

Fgs! Sorry “I worked within the square mile”

It’s awful using a phone!

Please give us an “edit” function!

There is always so much deflection whenever antisemitism is raised. So many 'buts' and 'other groups suffer'. Can we not discuss and condemn antisemitism just as a subject on its own?

I agree with the Commissioner. In my opinion antisemitism is growing and displayed with absolute impunity.

No, she isn’t. The escalation of attacks on Jews is worldwide, regardless of whether governments are socialist or conservative, and marches are banned or not. Terrorism does not respect political regimes. Of course our government should be doing more, but let’s not fool ourselves that when they do it will stop terrorists.

She isn’t in your view but she is in mine.

Of course, and anyone in denial of this must have their own agenda.

Okay, ignore the fact that this is. Worldwide issue if you choose.

I’m going to risk being flamed here but no one in the media dares to mention that some of this has been brought about by Israel’s actions in Gaza and the occupied territories. Non-Jewish people are living in worse conditions than Jews here with the Israeli government encouraging attacks on non-Jewish residents in their aim for a greater Zionist nation.
It’s hard to reconcile how a people who suffered the holocaust can treat Palestinians so badly.

TerriBull Fri 01-May-26 13:46:22

How many more times does this have to be said!!! Jewish people living in different parts of the world are not the Israeli government.

I agree too, but it does have to be recognised that when tensions are high in the Middle East there are more attacks against innocent Jews living anywhere in the world. If the conflicts de-escalates the attacks will reduce - or at least, that’s what history tells us.

AGAA4 Fri 01-May-26 14:27:02

Netanyahu has a lot to answer for. Hopefully in October he will be gone. I don't believe he is popular or ever has been. He only managed to squeeze into power by asking someone from another party to stand with him.
Blaming Jews from all over the world including many in Israel for his actions is so very wrong.

Yes, from Islamist extremists.

Casdon Fri 01-May-26 14:46:43

It’s much more complicated than only Islamic extremists Oreo, I’m sure you’re aware that antisemitic violence is perpetrated by extremists across the political spectrum.

Galaxy Fri 01-May-26 14:54:05

If we don't talk about Islamic extremism then more Jewish people will be attacked. It needs some courage from some political party, ,anyone I don't care, but political courage is vanishingly rare.

The news I heard clearly stated antisemitism was a world wide issue, growing across the world.

It’s awful, and I heard Starmer is ploughing more cash into Policing London boroughs with high levels of Jewish residents.

Alongside that he’s condemned the attacks and is married to a Jew and they are raising their children as Jews.

“Starmer, Jewish Harmer” is disgusting and totally untrue.

I think that 'recognising' it actually leans into justifying or at the very least excusing/explaining antisemitism. Why should Jews have to accept any level of antisemitism, and be reliant on what happens in the Middle East? Unless we all condemn it outright and make no excuses, explanations, or justifications it will continue unabated.
The UK has nothing to fear from Jews, has there ever been a bomb attack or similar organised by Jews? I don't remember ever reading of a Jew going on a knife rampage. I don't recall ever reading about organised Jewish gangs wreaking havoc on a neighbourhood. In fact you could deduce they are the most law abiding, peaceful contingent in our society. And no I'm not personally a Jew.

It should be discussed, openly, honestly and calmly, but let’s not pretend that our Muslim communities aren’t targeted too, it may not always be with the same frequency or violence, but sometimes it is, the case of the Sikh woman raped is just one example.

Cossy Fri 01-May-26 15:04:54

Rosie51 Well said flowers

There’s no excuse or reason for attacks on any innocent groups/cohorts of people.

It’s just a straightforward fact Rosie61. I’m not condoning any violence against Jews, anywhere, by anybody.

MartavTaurus Fri 01-May-26 15:21:03

There's no denying that the Muslim communities in the UK aren't targets as well, and that is wrong too.

But the Commissioner, who is responsible for policing on the streets of Britain, in our societies , clearly states that antisemitism is a disease. If even he starts to speak in these terms, then I'm not sure how antisemitism can truly be eradicated, even if the conflict far away calns down.
