Heather Cox Richardson has noted this in her daily 'Letter from an American'

She discusses whether or not Trump knew that Melania was making the statement and her 'letter' finishes with this:

And then, at 7:49 tonight, the president’s social media account posted a graphic video of a man killing a woman with a hammer. The screed that accompanied the video attacked Haitian immigrants, former president Joe Biden, and “the Radical Democrats in Congress.” The post echoed the usual vicious racism to which Trump turns to feed his base. But it is hard to miss that hours after his wife gave an unexpected press conference about Jeffrey Epstein, Trump posted a video of a woman’s murder.

Having listened to her very carefully worded speech it is as much about what she didn't say.

As they mixed in the same circles, she admits to being acquainted with Epstein and Maxwell on a superficial level but nothing she said defends or explains any connection Donald Trump may have had.

The overall impression I gained was that she wanted to distance herself from any involvement with Epstein without commenting on any other issues apart from giving a voice to the victims.

She concluded by suggesting that the victims be given the opportunity of making individual statements under oath.

As to her motives for making this speech at this particular time - I think we will just have to wait and see.

It could just be that she is sick and tired of all the innuendo that keeps being repeated with little evidence.

She may have a reason to though now fancythat. Does she know that some unwelcome news is coming re. Epstein.
This is all conjecture of course and it may be just what she says it is.

I do wonder that quite often!

Is Melania distancing herself from Donald?

My guess is no.

She would have done it long ago, I would have thought.

But who knows really.

She is a silly woman who thinks denying contact with Epstein will let her off the hook somehow.

She sees what is happening to Trump and has gone into survival mode. She is all too away that when the reckoning comes her position for her money and her family will be threatened and this is all she cares about.

Melania was introduced by Paolo Zampolini, who arranged modeling work in the US, he and Trump and many others were in the same social circle as Epstein. No evidence that she ever met Epstein.

That seems a plausible there are many women trafficked as models into rich countries, Melania thought she was one of the lucky ones one. Probably regretting that now

I don’t think that is plausible, it’s more likely that in his infinite lack of wisdom Trump started the Iran debacle as a distraction from his Epstein involvement. Epstein has the potential to bring him to his knees more swiftly than any presidential action he has taken.

Every billionaire seems to have a bimbo wife hanging off their arm. Perhaps Melania Trump is too old to be described as a bimbo, her connection was legalised and it has lasted, which is more than can be said for most of these marriages.

I always feel its a mixture of

knowing which side her bread is buttered

and

fear of consequences of splitting - Trump's not one to take it lightly, massive offence to ego and so on.

I agree that something else is about to be revealed and Melania is taking pre-emptive action.
Otherwise is a totally weird thing to do unless she does want to cause ructions for her husband. And I can understand that.

It is rather odd isn't it. I can't decide whether it was a desperate attempt to distract from Trump's disastrous illegal war with Iran or to throw him under the Epstein bus, by dragging it all up again.

TBH I hadn't thought it might be to mitigate something that's about to break regarding a connection she had with Epstein and/or Maxwell but maybe that makes more sense.

She's open about having met Epstein and writing to Maxwell, haven't you watched the video or read what she said.

There is certainly evidence that she met Epstein. In fact she admits to doing so, but denies it was a close relationship.

I remember reading about her link to Epstein years ago when his first case was in the news. That was before AI etc. She modelled for “Victoria’s Secret” occasionally I think, and as far as I remember Epstein or Maxwell had some link to them.

There are multiple photos of POTUS, FLOTUS, Epstein and Maxwell together, some of which were shown on Breakfast News this morning. These have been around for decades.
