There is hope and oil prices plunge it seems Trumps invasion attack plans are on hold if Iran opens Hormuz, we can hope.

I agree Petra 👍

AGAA4 Wed 08-Apr-26 16:56:34

I've read petra's link and it looks as though it won't be too hard for Iran to make a nuclear weapon however much they are bombed.
China can make nuclear weapons fairly quickly and they do help Iran with their expertise.
It would be worrying if Iran and Israel have nuclear weapons. Both have hard line regimes.
I don't know believe Trump has achieved anything positive from.his illegal war. The opposite in fact.

fancythat

What I always struggle to understand, in these sorts of circumstances, is how many "ordinary" people, really do support a "vile regime".

10% 50%?
I have no idea.

I don't suppose the Iranians know either, fancythat as most will be too scared to voice criticism of the regime.

But my completely uninformed guess would say <50%, at least when not threatened by a power-mad superpower headed by an idiot.

Hopefully Elegran, if them two idiots will listen.

As, 10 years on, they still don't have nuclear weapons it seems to have been working despite Trump.

Is it propaganda that you are repeating, Oreo or the considered opinion of war studies experts?

Is anyone’s comments on here propaganda they’re repeating or
Considered opinions of war studies experts?
For myself I do listen to experts, particularly those who are experts on the Middle East.
Iran isn’t just a vile regime it’s what it does in the wider world and against Israel that bothers me rather than what it does to its own people.Anything that degrades and reduces that suits me.

Smileless2012 Wed 08-Apr-26 17:25:36

Anything that degrades and reduces that suits me well I'm happy not to be in agreement with you Oreo.

It worries me that Israel and America have nuclear weapons AGA as neither leader in those countries can considered to be stable IMO.

Are you aware you are doing the same as you are accusing others of, Oreo? You are no more right in your opinions than others, because there is no right.

I don’t hold with the notion that there isn’t a ‘right’ ….that makes a nonsense of everything going on in the world and every subject.

I can tell that’s the case.

Is Trump the right?

Israel obvs do, but they're not overt.
In other words, its an open secret, covert nuclear capability.
Which makes it difficult to use it as a deterrent (since its not supposed to have them).

valdavi Wed 08-Apr-26 17:47:11

USA won't use their nuke option on anyone until they've got escape options for the super-rich on ?~ Mars ? hence the renewed interest in space travel and exploration in our era.

(Probably precipitated by the climate change emergency rather than the threat of a nuclear wipe-out, as that hasn't been topical for 3 decades now).

Child marriage? Forced marriage? Terrorism? Grooming gangs? Insurance fraud? Need I go on? On any subject there will be opinions but there’s always a right one in certain subjects and as Iran is basically a terror backing cruel regime who wants to have nuclear capabilities and is a blight on the ME and the wider world then it’s easy to see what’s right.

Oh - I forgot. Cuba is in his sights, big time.

And he is questioning himself, why he has troops in South Korea because they did not offer any help and he is good friends with the northern leader.

sixandahalf Wed 08-Apr-26 17:51:33

It's not right to kil people, especially little children.

orly Wed 08-Apr-26 18:04:43

The ceasefire has more cracks in it than the American's logic

fancythat Wed 08-Apr-26 18:11:04

It must even be obvious to Trump by now (even if he won't admit it publicly) that his threats, Iran strike/war actions to date and hissy fits achieved little

Unfortunatly, I think[and it is what is in his mind that counts, and not anyone elses'] he will think that he has acheived a great deal indeed.

And in my opinion, he will think he acheived so much, that he will try another Country[no idea which one] very soon. Way before the year is out.
Assuming his health holds up.

Well it's easy to know right from wrong but it certainly doesn't follow that the end justifies the means! I don't think anyone on this forum thinks that "Child marriage? Forced marriage? Terrorism? Grooming gangs? Insurance fraud" is right, Oreo However, bombing children, women, men who are not supporters of this Iran regime but are victims of it is not "right" either. These are war crimes and any "right" minded person will know that.

Iran have now said they will not allow ships through.

At around 3pm our time, Hesketh gave a news conference.
This BBC report on the news feed shows just how little the US really knows what its doing - nor its working within the law

"Hegseth was triumphalist in his news conference but in the room few details were forthcoming about the nature of the truce and planned negotiations with Iran.

His statements were marked by contradiction and a lack of clarity.

The administration says the aim of the war was to deny Iran a nuclear weapon in the future. Hegseth said at one point Iran would hand over its stockpile of nuclear fuel “right now”. He didn’t say who would do this, how it would happen, or how it would be verified.

He was later asked about this and said: “They will either give it to us, which the president laid out, or if we have to do something else ourselves."

On the Strait of Hormuz, Tehran has said its re-opening it during the truce will be under Iranian military coordination. Hegseth was asked about control of the strait, and said the oil tankers “will be sailing” but the US retained options.

And he was asked about Trump’s post on Tuesday threatening a “whole civilization” would die, and his threat to destroy all of Iran’s power plants and bridges.

Hegseth quoted the president saying the US could “take it all” including Iran’s “ability to export energy”, adding: “The United States military has the ability to strike those things with impunity”.

This is not true, Congress has a series of laws limiting US conduct in war and has ratified treaties including the Geneva Conventions, which mean its military and leadership cannot act with impunity

I don’t hold with the notion that there isn’t a ‘right’ ….that makes a nonsense of everything going on in the world and every subject.

The trouble is that what's "right" depends on where you live, which influences what arguments you hear and which you don't hear.
So there end up being a multiplicity of "rights" depending on where in the world you were born.
A good way to overcome the pernicious influence of this, and the number of wars that start directly because of this, would be to have less certainty over your own "I'm right".

I think that Trump and Hesgeth have watched too many John Wayne films.

latest on new feed: Iran say they will respond if the Regime in Israel doesn't stop attacks on the Lebanon.

We can all only have our own feelings on what’s right, and am sure everyone on this thread thinks so too as they all appear to think they’re right too.

I don't agree to be honest, I know that western nations that don't throw gay people off rooftops are right or that nations that allow women to be educated are 'right' compared to those who don't.
