Yes, many people have. And if not on pavement then in shops and their own homes on the floor.
From sinner to saint, quite a transformation.
Taking dogs on holiday in summer
Voluntary Jewish ambulances, run by a Jewish charity, have been set alight in a car park in Golders Green North London.
How much more hate can be thrown at one group of people in our country?

Why are regular NHS ambulances insufficient?
Need you ask? 😲
Are you from outside the UK sixandahalf?

Indeed!
If you put a 999 call through, it's likely that Friern Barnet in North London won't have an NHS ambulance free to dispatch immediately. If you are in the designated area and phone the number of the Jewish charity, you would probably get an ambulance within minutes.

As has been documented. And they don't care if you are Jewish or not, the question is never asked. There are loads of testimonials from non Jews praising the service. The Jewish volunteers even break the Sabbath and prayers when needed because saving lives is the ultimate aim.
if you are Jewish or not, the question is never asked
And that's how things are on the whole in London. In everyday life, the question is never really asked what religion anyone follows. Both ways. Most people live with tolerance and understanding of each other, side by side. There's social acceptance of everyone, which works well for all, regardless of our religion.
I lived in the Borough of Redbridge, Wes Streeting's patch, where a third of the population are Muslims, the highest concentration in England. Yet I taught in a neighbouring area of North London, where nearly half the population are Jewish. There were cracks, and the situation was fragile, but on the whole most people went about their daily lives rubbing shoulders in a peaceful manner.
Until ............. quite simply the tipping point,
Where did that brutal antisemitic massacre of October 2023 come from? Who was unwilling to return the hostages, alive or dead?
Whilst I agree to an extent that Trump and Netanyahu are to be held personally responsible for the actions they took/are taking, such antisemitic brutality on Day 1 was bound to bring about the starting point of something enormous, and these are now the consequences.
What sort of people do that? I feel so very sorry for all victims of hate and prejudice.
I hope the Jewish community know vile human beings who committed this crime, the rest of us feel compassion are repulsed by it and my thoughts are with them.
So many hate crimes against different races, religions. Where is this hate learnt and why ?
I'm always appalled when any minority group is attacked in vile and horrible ways.
Have been since my Dad talked about the hostility from some when he helped Jewish refugees post WW2. Mum and Dad were involved in the Peace Movements with Quakers and other very significant figures.
I have no doubt at that time it came from the remnants of the right Wing Moseley crew or just wanton ignorance, and to some extent, still does.
Then there were the "No blacks" notices in windows and Enoch Powells rivers of blood speech. Prejudice and hate have always been with us sometimes from those living here for many generations and sometimes between different groupings.
So now I find myself disgusted by any terrorist or hate attacks on any group that has sought to live in peace in our country, in stead of seeking to know and understand each other.
I have no doubt that what is happening abroad is related to what happens at home in terms of taking dislike or hate into violence: we can do at home is consider it absolutely beyond the pale, and seek to continue to build bridges wherever possible, and seek out and punish those who transgress in the strongest of ways.
And for me that includes not just violent actions, but the SM and other means: I mean only SM and speeches that directly whip up hatred and plans or co-ordinate attacks against groups or individuals.
We have to look at the climate that these attacks occur in, be it at home, or news from abroad, and act accordingly.
What little can we do, but try and build bridges where possible in personal and political ways? Contribute financially if we can.
I know this post comes across as stiff and theoretical, but to me it's not, believe me. Its been lifelong.
The country has rallied round and the ambulances will be replaced by community donations. That's a small victory.
The millennia of hatred between Catholics and Protestants was calmed down due to the Good Friday agreement. Not completely eradicated, I know.
Not the same situation, but can lessons be drawn from any similarities?
I think any decent-minded person would think like you Wyllow3. We do have to try and build bridges, somehow.
It's just that answers are so hard to find when evil-minded people are amongst us.

Thanks MartavTaurus.
The Jewish community in the UK is well known for its charitable work. As are members of the Christian and Muslim communities. Faith groups and none raise money to support others.
I’ve been shocked at the level of anti semitism and ignorance in the comments below news reports on this incident. Eg suggesting that God’s chosen people have private ambulances and ignore the needs of non Jewish people.
Anti semitism has never gone away and it’s growing with people easily using the term Zionism to defend bigotry.
I just don't know how SM could be policed. With Musk and X, standards have collapsed.
Iam 👏👏👏

I asked this by googling to find out what IS in place.
"Police and secret services monitor social media for racist and hate-motivated content using a combination of Open Source Intelligence (OSINT), AI-driven automated monitoring tools, and targeted investigations by specialized units, such as the UK’s National Online Hate Crime Hub.
They generally focus on publicly available information to identify trends, map criminal networks, and intervene before online hate translates into real-world violence.

I'd say us, as just little people with little influence, can best help by getting involved in interfaith groups, becuase these are not a might seem "only for religious people". There were for example in our city publicly advertised open events for the ending of Eid. You engage with people - it's easier for me as my gym is very multi-culural and it's natural to chat. and yes we do talk about what its like to be a woman from other cultures, or how we feel about Iran, because of course most people are decent minded and want just to live well and see their children get on in school.
I am heartened now because I see what I did not used to, that the "Walking home from school" is now not as it tended to be in the past, separated by colour or ethnicity. Some do of course prefer to be with the friends they know from outside school and thats always been the case. (My city has 10.3% ethnically diverse people)
The CCTV was very clear.
Yes, they were masked and hooded but I think I would recognise loved ones/good friends from their gait. Hoping someone recognises them and does the right thing.

Thought I heard on BBC News last night that the Government will be replacing the vehicles?

Just going by what a Poster said upthread, Basgetti, that the funding target had been reached. I guess they would know.
But also yes, that was on the BBC.
AnnieB, why would you say that?

Perhaps the money raised will go towards the running costs.
I imagine this is run in a similar way to the St John Ambulance Service but on a much smaller, localised way.
For those who ask why - have you ever waited for an NHS ambulance and given in, taking the patient to hospital yourself or even having a kind passerby offering to do so?

Are they surprised when there is so much destruction in Gaza?
Am not saying its right but Israel's actions in the Middle East have repercussions.
What has been inflicted on the civilians of Gaza is nothing short of evil.
Anyone with an iota of common sense knows that has nothing whatsoever to do with British volunteer paramedics - who would no doubt not hesitate to treat Palestinian patients - going about their lawful business.
What have they to do with the repugnant Netanyahu?
The “but Gaza” excuse is wearing very thin.

If they believe they are exacting revenge for Gaza (if that is who these perpetrators are) then they are incredibly stupid, mindless and in fact have much in common with Netanyahu.
