Trump says our troops were not on the frontline in Afghanistan
(129 Posts)How dare this bufoon make such a claim?! My Royal Marine son still has nightmares about his time there. He saw one friend killed by gunfire and watched another lose a leg by an ied. I want Trump to face Veterans and explain how they got wounded if they were just in the background.
Why do so many Americans believe a word this excuse for a man says?
Private Bonespurs. None of his family, have ever served.
My son also served in both Afghanistan and Iraq - on the latter tour, he was actually embedded with American troops. They should put that orange buffoon in a room full of forces mums (both present and veterans) and they'd soon put him straight!
I have no words to describe the disgust I feel for what Trump has said.
I’m listening to the mother of an Afghanistan veteran talking on the radio.
Heart breaking.
I think there’s a real problem with mental health if we continue to devour every word which drops from Trump’s lips. He is not our president and his influence needs to be reigned in. He does not rule the world. I am sure he talks so much that it is impossible for him to check the veracity of his own words. However Trump needs to evacuate our head space! And only we can evict him…..

I don't have any family in the forces but I am furious about what Trump said.
A soldier on BBC news, a triple amputee, after going to the aid of the US said he was shoulder to shoulder with the US soldiers on the front line.
This is just peevish Trump annoyed about Greenland.
I would be banned if I said how I really feel about this awful draft dodging man.
Yes, I think it’s that in a nutshell, annoyance over Greenland.

I agree, I no longer read or look at anything to do with him. I’m making an exception now because I am so disgusted at his disrespect for those who fought, were maimed, still suffer and died.
A draft dodger who takes every opportunity to demean those who have shown bravery, look at how he treated McCain who was a real war hero. “He's not a war hero. He was a war hero because he was captured." The man is a pathetic bully and a sociopath but he's also old and in poor health

FFS!!
Even King Charles can’t ignore that! Harry may have many faults but the King could put Tump right about his younger son’s military service.
Rein him in ronib ?
String him up more like.
He has no military experience, no understanding of foreign affairs and no dignity. The problem is, he has no shame either so he will not apologise for making such a comment. He is a disgusting individual.
There is no point in being outraged by Trump's comments.
They are a deliberate ploy to unsettle people, then while they are in a turmoil about how to respond he smoothly moves on elsewhere and does what he wants.
It feeds his ego, gives him publicity and will all collapse eventually, but not just yet.
This asinine comment is just another example of the incredible arrogance and utter ignorance of this disgraceful individual.
God help America because clearly no one else is going to.
Putin must be rubbing his hands in glee at the orange oaf’s words and actions.

Completely agree.
Utterly, totally outrageous 🤬. Its in detail with interviews on the R4 news atm.
I am someone who has no one in the family who has been in the military, but I share the repugnance expressed here .
Where, oh where are the people in his cabal to challenge him?
Karoline Leavitt, for example, said " he didn't confuse Greenland and Iceland in his speech, he said..." to a room full of folk who had just heard him do exactly that.
Shame on them, every one of them.
Disgusting. I’m from a military family and it’s a real insult.

Do the families of military personnel who died in Afghanistan not have the right to feel outrage? How would you feel if it were you?

Of course there is a point in feeling outraged. The man has insulted 457 service personnel from the UK who were killed in Afghanistan without counting those injured.
It might all be a stupid game to him but people should and must show their outrage about this.
There is a very significant value indeed in pointing out every single thing that Trump does, because he embodies far right values and they threaten our own lives in the shape of Reform.
Anything that splits Trump and any support from the UK, or links built and maintained, or praise for Trump type policies as being of value to us here is worth highlighting.
(In this case of course Reform will totally back our armed forces, but in general it matters).
When is Keir Starmer going to grow some backbone and stand up to the disgusting preposterous comments and claims of the insane monster from the White House. He is the Prime Minister of a country who sent its precious youth to support US military in Afghanistan then they watched them come back in coffins or disfiguired and injured. Starmer is not representing our country with any semblance of honesty.
And as for the King Charles going to visit Trump ...he should be ASHAMED to even consider it a possibility! If he does go, don't ask him ever to place a wreath at the Cenotaph again!
I think he actually scored an own goal with this - American troops KNOW that British troops were in the front line with them, and will say so.
I was working in the US when the war kicked off, and met many, many American troops leaving for and returning from Iraq and Afghanistan because of where I was based. Many told me they were proud of serving alongside the Brits - as National Guard many had never been in combat and had only recently signed up, and I don't think they realised that many of our troops had never been in combat before either.
Trump is a maniac and knows no history. He complains about us and Europe but America was supported during 9/11 but I expect he’s forgotten that . What can you expect from a man who was a draft dodger in his own country . He was too much of a coward to go to war.
You think, Wyllow, that Reform will support the troops against Trump's slur.
Has Farage called out Trump yet? Maybe he has. I don't follow him, so may have missed his outrage at this lie.
Happy to be wrong about this.
Trump has insulted numerous NATO countries who came to the aid of the USA in 2001 and whose soldiers fought and died in the front line alongside the American troops. Including Canada and Denmark both counties he has threatened recently. Yes we should be outraged.
No comment from Farage? Funny that.
I am waiting for someone senior in the US military who served in Afghanistan, possibly retired by now, to speak out and tell truth to Trump.
