I’m interested to hear who people think is right in this dispute? Is it reasonable for Birmingham City Council to meet the workers demands?

The cynic in me says that she's been deliberately suspended from Unite so as to put some distance between her and them. Then along comes Starmer's position and hey ho, we have a new PM with whom relations with Unite will suddenly be all good again. Just a thought ...

Birmingham Council haven’t run things well for a long time and in this dispute I think the workers are absolutely right.

Am I right in thinking that Birmingham still doesn’t have wheelie bins? Or have things changed since I last visited the place.

I believe Bham has 3 wheelie bins...the only ones being emptied R household waste....no recycling since?end ofFeb..and no garden waste altho paid for...not being picked up...
It must be terrible for Brummies and with the heat..an awful stench and a health risk to all...this has now been ongoing for ?6months over inequality pay...hope this is resolved soon ...not sure if London residents would put up with this ...

As I read it, the dispute is about bringing the way the refuse collectors work in Birmingham City Council in line with how they work in other local authorities. As Oreo said, BCC has had a lot of issues, and it appears that the departmental staff, supported by the Union, have created roles that don’t exist elsewhere. Now the Council has decided that they want working patterns and pay rates to return to the norm, there is a dispute about roles and pay protection. Is that what those who know more than I do about this than I do think has brought them to this point?

That’s about it Casdon the Council want to fire and rehire the workers for around £8,000 less per year, who would put up with that?

I feel sorry for the bin me they should have accepted the last offer it was as good as it could have been , so I feel the person that led the strike let them down.
Birmingham is broke and you can’t get blood out of a stone.
Household rubbish has been collected each week, garden refuse not but have had full refund. Book an appointment at local tip for all recycling. All refuse put out should be done with respect for those collecting. The state that some people put out their rubbish is insulting to those collecting, takeaway boxes with food still in it and bowls of sauce, not in bags, bins spilling over. I wouldn't be collecting. Furniture etc fly tipped round the bins. Its certain areas with the biggest problem. Others very clean and the City centre spotless,

I am in agreement with Allsorts it is very difficult if not nigh on impossible to have two masters.

Labour is moving away from its core Union values, unfortunately AR has to choose where her allegiance lies.

Sharon Graham, leader of Unite, is no supporter of Labour under KS. Unite’s financial contributions to the Labour Party were far higher when Corbyn was the party leader. Still not enough to prevent Corbyn losing two GEs though🤷‍♀️

The timing of Unite’s ‘re-evaluation’ of their relationship with Labour is very interesting. With a potential new left party on the horizon, maybe Unite will re-ignite its friendship with Corbyn.

No that isn’t correct. Unite has always had a fractious relationship with the Labour Party.

At present it is strongly against net zero for obvious reasons.
