I think the police gave the information they did carefully but speedily to avoid any repeats of Southport, as other posters have mentioned. (background of suspect, that its not terrorism)

So what do you know that the police, the emergency services and those nearby don’t?

Another incident using a car as weapon intended to commit an offence..murder. The police will have a difficult job to prove this. I hope they get all the evidence they need to prosecute this despicable human. Makes me scared to be in public spaces.

LizzieDrip, people in Liverpool and Liverpudlians everywhere have learnt the hard way not to trust media, government and police. The footage taken immediately, when many would have cameras rolling because of the event, will seal evidence in hard copy.

Actually rather cross with Jeremy Vine just nnow talking to a caller who said there was absolutely no police presence.With a million people in the city and aerial footage showing police vans and officers all over its unrealistic to expect every road to be lined with officers. Fact is the police were on the scene immediately trying to stop the vehicle, detain the diver,try to extract people from under it and calm the crowd. That car could have been carrying a bomb or the driver aŕmed.but in they went with no thoughts for their own safety.Many of the same officers hurt in the Southport riots only months ago.I know this because our close relative is one of them.It would just have been nice to hear JV acknowledge that there was a big police presence on Water Street.And that they responded immediately. As you can tell this is close to home.Thinking of all those injured and their families.

It’s being said that barriers were moved to allow the ambulance in, this driver tailgated the ambulance and drove down the street, the crowd surged, some attacked the vehicle, others tried to drag the driver out, he accelerated to escape. Then, the inevitable happened. It’s a very sad day.

I read that the incident was half an hour after the actual procession, people were making their way back to their transport, which might explain why there was traffic access?

I understand football, my family were at another celebration for a different club this weekend, but do they shut off the roads for the procession, or is that just impossible. Is it through all the main areas of the city and therefore wouldn't be possible to shut the roads down?

Water Street and other roads were shut off. Nobody knows yet how the car got through the barrier.

This was not the only car in that area so it can’t have been shut off.

I have seen footage of the car involved in the incident being attacked by a group of very aggressive men. It clearly spooked the driver and he overtook some cars and tried to get away as he could see that they were chasing him.

The police will be analysing all this footage before making any further statements.

Now it's been given, people will always wonder "why and how" but it's a definitely a privacy matter for those affected in terms of visuals. The BBC has used a very brief aerial view that ID's no one.

I remember watching the 9/11 on tv as I'd had the day off work to attend a hospital appointment. I don't think I understood the horror of it all whilst watching it, in all honesty. It seemed unreal

When it happened it was on everyone’s mind as to whether it was deliberate or an accident.
What we shouldn’t do is to speculate on the who / colour/ culture.

So I think there is an argument about desensitisation but there is also something about understanding horror I suppose. How is it different from the footage of 9/11? There is something about understanding the horror of an event.

It would also be nice if posters were mature enough not to carry over grudges from thread to thread and comment only on what the particular thread is about.
This particular thread is too upsetting in subject to those poor people in Liverpool for that.

What is the subject? Your opening post is asking for speculation which we have been asked not to do. The police have ruled out terrorism. Now we have to wait to see what their investigations reveal.

Actually, examining film footage not only helps the public understand what has happened but assists the Police as well.

Agreed, but it can be sent to the police, rather than posted on X or FB.

My partner's nephew was killed by a dangerous driver (who eventually was sentenced to eight years in prison). Within hours, footage of the incident appeared on YouTube. The parents were traumatised by the videos, which showed the moment their son was killed. I don't know what kind of pressure the police exerted, but the videos were removed from You Tube. The police, of course, used the videos when preparing their case. Fortunately, they didn't need to be used in court because the driver entered a guilty plea.
