I have a blood disease called polycythaemia rubra vera. Apparently I’m quite lucky “if you have to have a cancer, that’s a good one to have”’. I’ve been on oral chemo for 15 years now and hopefully will be on it until I die a natural death. I tolerate it well and it doesn’t disrupt my life too much except for the regular blood tests and ‘heart stopping’ moments until I’m told all is well again.

I have a similar blood disease called Essential Thrombocytothemia, or ET for short.The doctors tell me it is a form of cancer of the red blood cells.It was diagnosed after I had a sudden very large pulmonary embolism as ET causes the blood to clot very fast.I am on blood thinning tablets for the rest of my life now
I am not yet on chemotherapy to reduce the rising levels of red blood platelets which if untreated can cross into the white blood cells and cause leukaemia which is the nasty one.
I just have my blood tested at the hospital every four months now to keep a check on the levels, if they start rising the I start chemo
The main symptoms I have now are extreme fatigue as the day goes on and terrible itching of the skin, but I can tolerate those.

I think it's remarkable that he has carried on in HM role with very few interruptions and I'm sure that this is because of his belief in that it is his duty to serve. Not because of a long wait to do the top job and now it's "his turn".

After all "Ich Dien" (to serve) was instilled in him for many years as The Prince of Wales.

It was a new chapter for most of us when Charles became King - like many I'm sure, every time someone says "the Queen" I expect to see the late Queen.

I was a real sceptic about him until he made his address to the nation when his Mother died. Perfectly pitched and came from the heart.

I wish him well and hope he is able to serve us for years to come.

Just a little question, our Welsh posters might know .....
Why hasn't William been "invested" as Prince of Wales yet? I think he was given the title a while ago, and although I was only a child at the time, I think the investiture happened quickly for Charles?
Or have I missed William's?

There will be no investiture given the circus when Charles went through , poor man , that awful crown, Tony Armstrong Jones got carried away, plus there was the Free Wales Army , much celebration by the people of Wales though, he was very popular here

I'm not a fan of Charles but wish him well. I am wondering though if this length of time on treatment is to extend his life rather than cure the cancer.

His cancer reminds me very much of my DH who had kidney cancer and was taking targeted drugs orally for 4 years although as each one stopped working, another was tried. At one time he had immunotherapy which had to be administered in hospital as an outpatient.
He coped wonderfully most of the time.

Eventually everything stopped working, the cancer spread to his lungs, to his bones and then he died. Luckily he was at home with us, his family.

There is someone nauseating on this thread and it's not Charles.

I do hope he’s ok. I admire him for his stance on the environment; something that he was mocked for at one time. But he was way ahead of many people. And I also admire how he’s working with the government at a time when international relations have to be dealt with very carefully.

So many times he has been mocked , so cruel.

People who do not like the Monarchy are wishing the King well, its what decent people do.

I am far from a fan of the royal family. They are so divorced from the realities of life for most people who struggle from day to day, even though they pay lip service to understanding.He will be getting the very best of every treatment available and not having to concern himself with how to make ends meet and pay his bills, the same for all the royals who can just concentrate on recovery. Having said that, as a human being, I wish him the very best and trust he will soon feel much better.

Some see palaces and country homes, never question the restrictions on those living in them.

My husband had prostate cancer fir 2 1/2 years. On tablets, then chemo. Stopped 6 months b4 his death. My son has colon cancer stage 4. He has been on different chemos. One gave him pains like electric shocks. Cancer ate into bones, and his femur cracked, so had hip op 6 weeks ago. Can't have chemo because of that, so tumours growing again. No quality of life. Charles may have prostate, because he still seems to be able to do duties

Thank- u Friedtomatoes. He is lot of pain today, and can't sleep for more than 2 hrs at a time. I feel so useless, can only fill is water glass for him. He had good day yesterday, and ate a bit. He has had enough.
