Was it really necessary for our Chancellor to “enhance” her CV if she was up to the job in the first place?
Not “the best part of a decade” at the Bank of England, as she claimed but five years and a few weeks, (some of which time was spent studying for a Master’s at LSE)
In Retail Banking at HBOS she may have been under a cloud regarding her departure after an expenses investigation with serious allegations by her colleagues.
Did she lie or exaggerate- if so, why did she feel it necessary?
Too many politicians over recent years have let us down, I believed Starmer offered integrity with his team.
If she simply got it wrong - well I might have expected better of somebody aiming to have so much influence over the economy and our personal financial welfare.

That’s undoubtedly what she wanted us to believe. She has said it several times in interviews - I wonder if Starmer knew the truth? She must be glad of the focus on Trump and Ukraine, but I doubt this will conveniently be forgotten. Who else might Starmer appoint as chancellor though? Any ideas?

Telling us that she spent ‘the best part of a decade’ working as an economist at the BoE is, to my mind, a pretty serious deception.
I don’t really know what her job at the BoE involved, but maybe she was still using Y2 maths when she said The better part of a decade.
In Y2 maths, children are taught rounding numbers up or down and numbers ending in 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 round up to the nearest 10.
That would be "the better part of a decade"
The best part of a decade would indicate 9+ years, I would have thought.
That would explain it then.

I wasn’t even considering accusations about expenses (in this instance), merely about the inaccuracies on her CV.
It's obvious she is used to having a cavalier attitude to other people's money. She and Starmer are a pair together.
I don’t think you can equate Sunak ‘benefitting from his wife’s billions’ with possible improper use of expenses, which would be theft or fraud. The only questionable uses of expenses that I have read of are the purchase of a bag for Reeves’s PA and purchase of a gift for her manager. I wouldn’t expect the purchase of a personal gift for a colleague to be claimed as an expense. I haven’t heard of any other allegation that Reeves used her expense account for personal expenditure, but it is a curious coincidence that she took voluntary redundancy around the time of the alleged investigation. Obviously we need to have confirmation from HBOS that there was no investigation, if that is the case. So far we have only heard that someone in HR has said that if there was an investigation she (the HR person) would have known about it. We don’t know if she necessarily would have known, as surely that would depend on the stage an investigation had reached, and its findings.

People on here are suggesting that Ms Reeves has her hand in the till and diverting funds to her personal pocket. There is no evidence of this. No outcry on Grant Shapps and his multiple online business persona, Sunak benefitting from his wife’s billions, Zahawi and his tax dodging , Covid fiddling by government etc etc. seems a bit one sided witch-hunt.
Maybe start a thread on those?

BBC!
I assume that he has been suspended?
It's just that had this been.....ooh, let's say a Labour councillor there would have been a triumphant thread announcing it by now.
This does not detract from my irritation and disappointment at the Labour party officials who did not make sure that there was not a thing to be revealed in RR's background checks.
I just thought I would let those whose information comes from GB News know, just in case they hadn't heard.
Me? Stirring it you say? Never!
What a numpty. He sounds quite an unpleasant character with a dim view of women and disabled people.
I read it on the news a week or so ago.
First I’ve heard of it.
Perhaps because it's news to most of us?
What was the point of that?
While we are on the subject of politicians, lies, embellishments etc., I am surprised that nobody has yet mentioned the fictional supermarket opening by a Reform Councillor.
Allira, it does rather sound that way.

I knew of a man that spent a few hundred pounds on personal stuff using his employer's credit card. He was sent to prison for 2 years. Rachael reeves should be in prison.
I think you should be really careful about what you say. So far there has been alot of hearsay and no proof.
Mud throwing can often prove to be more tragic for the thrower as they dig into mud to throw it, than it is for the person it was intended to besmirch.
Goodness, that sounds rather like another threat.
No, still on course for discussing Reeves in the context of an incompetent UK governmet
This is about Trump now then ?

Well, there were people on gransnet, when Trump was elected, saying that we need someone like him here.
Well, of course there was. We have freedom of speech in this country and given the number of GN members, the wide divergence in their ages, family circumstances, life experience and where they come from, we are bound to have memebers whose political opinions stretch from far left to far right.
But what has that got to do with subject under discussion?
As far as I can judge, in changing parties in power we have gone from being badly governed to having, what can best be described as a very mediocre govenment under the mediocre leadership of a dull mediocre Prime Minister.
I not actually sure which is worse.
