Melanie is really beautiful I think and what a figure.
I noticed the sky high heels too and at one point she slipped her hand into Trumps- through love I wonder or a fear of falling over ?
I listened to Trumps press conference after he was sworn in and I did admire him for being so straightforward with the press. He was polite with them and answered their questions in detail something our politicians never , ever do . Ours just say what they want us to hear often quite unrelated.
I also like that as well as himself he does seem to love America and seems upbeat and positive about building up the country and seeing it hopefully prosper. Quite a contrast to gloomy, boring Keir Starmer who is just so negative.

(290 Posts)Today it’s Memorial Day for MLK in the US overshadowed by the TRUMP Inauguration … wonder what he would think of US politics …

They certainly are.
And Dickens, I fear you are right.
And other ladies crowing with glee at these fools.

Waiting to see what will happen for Farage, who didn't make it onto the guest list for the top inauguration events when Boris Johnson did. Can he overcome Musk's saying he is not fit to be the leader? Will this mean at last a break where Musk's diktats aren't given the same applause?
I wonder if Farage might command more respect if he stopped attempting to ingratiate himself with the Trump Road Show and actually focused on his constituents?
Maybe there was some judicial planning to keep Farage away from the big inauguration events so that he wasn't forced into contact with Mr Musk?
I'm almost embarrassed for him.
As for Johnson, he once declared, as Mayor, that Trump wasn't fit to be POTUS, rather unnecessarily rudely I thought at the time. But there he was, swanning around. But, he wasn't going to miss that opportunity.
... all that testosterone fuelled male ego floating around the arena. Big-boy Politics - as Lee Anderson calls it. With the ladies elegantly perfumed flitting around, hopefully, to distil the smell of Alpha-Male in full swing.

And now this totally graceless President is demanding an apology from the Bishop, calls her ungracious and her service boring and uninspiring. Words fail me. God help America indeed …….
Are you surprised?
I'm not. He's on a mission to eradicate anything and anyone that opposes him.
If he really believes that God saved him so that he could be POTUS, then there's no limit to what he will do under that delusion. He's on a roll, and has the support of millions who think and feel like him.
We can do nothing except watch this dystopia play out, with all the 'hurrahs' from this side of the pond ringing around us.
The world is changing, fast, the Right is on the march and when the dust settles on this new dawn, the real reckoning will become apparent and- I say this without any malice - many of those who wanted this change will find themselves the victims of it.
I wish we had someone like Donald Trump here. He is so passionate about his country.

We need Mr Trump over here to stop the boats and control immigration.
I'm afraid the globe trotting duo won't do it.Humans have migrated from one place to another, for various reasons, since the dawn of time, and will continue until the end of it.
How you organise and control that migration in a civilised world is complex - although some appear to believe it's simple and you just, for example, push boats back out to sea.
No, we don't need "Mr Trump" or anyone other foreign Mr or Mrs to organise our constitutional affairs.
Parliamentary sovereignty is a principle of the UK constitution. It makes Parliament the supreme legal authority in the UK which can create or end any law. And I don't think there are any plans to hand that over to a foreign power - wasn't that one of the reasons we left the EU? To 'take back control'?
... although I'm sure Mr Trump would be flattered by your proposal.Dickens but we haven’t taken back control re the boat crossings ..it’s just endless …am not very impressed with our GOVERNMENT they have had time - nothing changes and leaving the EU hasn’t done us any good IMO
Dickens but we haven’t taken back control re the boat crossings...
No, we haven't, because Brexit scuppered the returns deal that we had with the EU and the then government put nothing in its place.
... and that presented a new opening for the traffickers to exploit, "hey migrants, jump in this boat - they absolutely can't send you back now"!

Here is the Bishop. A genuine person it seems.
Why are some people here so full of hate?

We use our navy to stop boats coming into Australia containing people who try to circumvent the official channels. I assume the UK no longer has a navy.
Pushing back migrant boats violates international maritime law.
Perhaps the Australian Navy ignores the international rules.

The sermon was very moving and I actually think Trump was listening intently. Not so much his son, he didn’t look engaged at all. Unlike others here, I don’t think Trump is a monster. Time will tell, of course.
I thought Trump actually looked uncomfortable when she implored him to think about the children….
Yes it was a very insightful sermon…some of the other family members looked totally disinterested and smirky

I really like this site, because it's interesting to read perspectives of people in Great Britian. I can't find a site similar to this in the U.S.
As a third generation American, I am appalled that this racist, fascist is once again in office. I'm old enough to remember MLK, his peaceful preaching and of course his assassination. I'm very troubled and saddened that this beast is in office again. I'm ashamed that a little more than half of the country voted for him. What will the next four years bring? Once again, I'll be afraid every day to see what he has done next. Just one fact alone that he pardoned more than 1,000 people charged in the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol, and commuted the sentences of leaders of the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers is, I feel, an abomination. I could go on and on. I'm 70 years old and I never thought I would witness something like this. I'm very depressed, to say the least.
We’re glad you’re on here…
Can appreciate how you’re feeling with this president..my nearest and dearest are US based so also have deep angst for the next 4 years … want to say ..‘keep smiling’ genuinely 🌻

I felt sorry for the American people yesterday, with this comment it seems we have just as many deluded people here in the UK.
Maybe a coalition between reasonable, free thinking people needs to be formed across the Atlantic?

I am not allowed to use apparently any more.
Appatentkybthey have removed the following pages from the White House website.
The Constitution
Women's reproductive rights
LGBTQ+ and AIDS resources
And they removed the Spanish version of the site.
Apparently, these particular pages had errors that needed to be corrected.
