He is actually the ceo of Centrica, which owns British Gas. This article explains his basic salary and the reason for his bonuses.

Centrica paid around £1bn in tax in 2022, the last year for which accounts are available. The government has imposed a windfall tax on energy companies, which was extended until 2029 in the last budget.

From 4million to 8million a year, the result of the UK Government not imposing a windfall tax and giving us money to hand over to the energy companies. We are supposed to be grateful for the help given to us to pay our bills when, in actual fact, the real benefactors were the energy company shareholders and company executives.
