This is a tragedy all round, for the young girl and her family, for the friend and her family and for the young man and his family , not forgetting their friend and the circle in whicg they lived and moved.
I think to use phrases like lowlife is not necessary. I don't know the real story or the surroundings . It does sound complicated and is , as I said absolutely tragic.
Oh, I should be saying what is always said in these circumstances, should I?
