Did he just compare the language used by government to 1930s Germany? Or did he actually reference Nazi Germany?

Whitewavemark2 Fri 10-Mar-23 19:36:14

The BBC claims to be entirely impartial.

Impartiality cannot be selective.

It is nonsense and the BBC know it.

JaneJudge Fri 10-Mar-23 19:36:16

maybe they could get some small boats to do it?
as we all know they are just small boats, right? and not actual human beings

Forsythia

It’s just a tv programme. If they all pull out I’m sure there will be others who’d step in. Personally I think Gary and friends should host several families from the boats in their own homes, not just one for a few weeks. Or as Maudi has said, all go to Calais and offer their services.

They’re just ex footballers. Millionaire ex footballers.

As opposed to millionaire corporate lawyers, millionaire hedge-fund managers and squillionaire media magnates who run our lives for us you mean?

Hosting asylum seekers for a few weeks is fine for a while but of course we'd surely really be hoping to help them find a home of their own where they can build a new life. Wouldn't we? Or perhaps we'd just like the people with brown skins fleeing from war to go away and not bother us, and forget about their own government (with Russian assistance) bombing and poisoning them.

Maudi

I'm sure there is plenty of new talent waiting in the wings to front MOTD for a lot less money. I'm surprised all the sainted Gary supporters aren't up in arms about his salary or is he so wonderful that he deserves every penny of his £1.3m plus salary.

You’re not understanding the dynamics of this Maudi. Nobody with any integrity is going to step into the breech here.

One doesn’t have to be, as you so crudely put it, a ‘Gary supporter’ to acknowledge that he’s the best in the business. Nothing to do with his politics, but at his actual job.

NEW: Broadcast union
@bectu
which represents many BBC staff says: “This is a deeply concerning decision from the BBC…taken with the ongoing controversy over the appointment of the BBC chairman…it risks given the impression of double standards on these issues.”

varian Fri 10-Mar-23 19:47:38

The Brexit Broadcasting Corporation may have been impartial a long time ago but not since 2015 or before.

Why was Farage on Question Times 29 times before the fraudulent referendum of 2016 when he had failed seven times to be elected as an MP?

They had Andrew Neil, proprietor of the right wing Spectator as a lead political commentator for years.

The current crop of political commentators, Laura Kuenssberg, Fiona Brice etc seem very very supportive of our right wing government. So much for BBC impartiliity

*To me GL is a local lad made good.*
What does this mean, please? Isn't everyone local to somewhere, and what's wrong with 'making good'?

Sorry he's a Leicester lad made good. And you are correct there is nothing wrong with him doing well for himself. Hope that explains it mi duck.

MaizieD Fri 10-Mar-23 19:54:56

Twitter says that Mark Scott has pulled out, too.

Maudi Fri 10-Mar-23 19:56:56

No one is indispensable not even Gary Lineker, MOTD was going long before Lineker hosted it. At the end of the day it's about the football match not the presenter.

MaizieD Fri 10-Mar-23 19:58:51

And Micha Richards has said that he won't do it, either

I’ve had a good idea Maudi. As nobody else is stepping into the breech to replace Gary, and you clearly know all about football, you present it. I promise to tune in.

SueDoku Fri 10-Mar-23 20:00:00

Just for your information...

Whitewavemark2 Fri 10-Mar-23 20:00:10

Oh snap. You probably spelt his name correctly as well😄

MaizieD Fri 10-Mar-23 20:01:19

One of the pundits, I should imagine.

I don't know. I don't actually care for football, but Mr Maizie does.

Touchy 😂

Actually I know all about Manchester United.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 10-Mar-23 20:02:56

Yes as does mr whitewave.

Wyllow3 Fri 10-Mar-23 20:06:31

It would be great if they can hardly out it on because no one agrees or someone so insignificant the point is clearly made.

Of course what they could do is just play the matches without a commentator.

Wyllow3 Fri 10-Mar-23 20:07:25

put it on not out it on.

Been on air with the one show. I wasn’t down to be doing match of the day tomorrow, but if I was I would of said no and stood with my fellow pundits and

Well, so it is!!
So if it's about the football, why ban the presenter because the BBC decides he should not protest about Government policy on an entirely different matter?

Is the BBC becoming like the VGTRK?

I must say I'm surprised at their stance as I've have always argued they are non-biased.

However, with the banning now of David Attenborough's last episode on the state of British wildlife in case it upsets some MPs, I wonder what is happening?

Siope Fri 10-Mar-23 20:10:25

Wyllow3 Lineker, Scott, Shearer and Wright (and Richards sometimes) aren’t commentators on matches. Lineker is the programme’s anchor, and the other are expert pundits. They appear between matches, to discuss them.

Callistemon21 Fri 10-Mar-23 20:10:45

Actually I know all about Manchester United

No bias there then! ⚽️

fancythat Fri 10-Mar-23 20:11:03

MOTD may have to run without presenters.
If people want presenters with their football, they may have to switch over.

Blondiescot Fri 10-Mar-23 20:11:44

If you're not angry about this, then you're not paying attention...
