RIP The right of a woman to choose

The USA seems to be culturally going backwards.

This week also saw the courts rule for easier gun purchase.

I’m devastated. Lives will be lost unnecessarily over this. Abortion won’t stop, it will just become more dangerous.

But they still put people to death…..

An unbelievably backward decision. As has been said on here time and time again, making abortion illegal does not stop the practice - it merely drives it underground. Desperate women will resort to any measures.
And it's amazing how some Americans are vehemently anti-abortion, calling it 'murder', yet see nothing wrong with the death penalty or the right to bear arms. Talk about double standards...

I'm saddened for American women who no longer have the right to choose embedded in law. Sometimes the world seems to be an awful place.

No the Democrats are not like Johnson’s government who ignore constitutional law.

This discussion is nothing to do with BJ or even Britain. We’re discussing abortion in America, something that British women have good access to.

No of course not. But I was merely pointing out why it is so difficult for the Democrats to change the constitution.
They are not law breakers. As opposed to our government who are.

This is why we lefties (or'thinking people', if you prefer) go on and on about Johnson and his government undermining our constitution. Because our constitution specifies an independent judiciary. Judges in the UK are not political appointments. They are in the US.

Johnson's shower (aka 'government') would very much like our judges to be political appointments.

Hopefully, people can see the awful warning of the USA and steer clear of politicians demonising 'leftie lawyers' to soften us up for politically appointed judges...

Unbelievable. Such a mixed up country. Americans can’t buy alcohol until they’re 21, but they can buy an assault rifle at 18. A lot of states still have the death penalty and some allow people to walk around carrying guns. Some states allow girls to marry when they’re under 16. This is what happens when judges are political appointments. We could blame the orange monster, trump, but he had plenty of people backing him. Is anyone following the January 6th hearings in Washington? Unbelievable.

Women will now have no access to abortion even in cases of rape and incest.

Also it looks as though the Supreme Court might now revisit the right to access contraception.

This was a ball set in motion by those who voted for Trump.
This is why we need the ECHR.

There is really no point comparing the UK with America, whatever I may think of Johnson, it's always been a mistake to think that our common language indicates much commonality on other issues.
