Good choice of names! tcrsmile ?

JaneJudge Fri 11-Jun-21 18:52:11

I think Doria was brave too smile

Galaxy Fri 11-Jun-21 18:56:35

None of my aunts or uncles were at my wedding. Peoples families are very different. My mum would have much preferred to be on her own than either her sister grin

Galaxy Fri 11-Jun-21 18:57:04

With her sister that should say.

"The RF certainly has enough cash to keep them all comfortably without any other support, And still they need more" so where do H&M fit in trisher?

H spat his dummy out when his father withdrew financial support, despite both him and M have "enough cash to keep them .... comfortably without any other support. And they still need more".

Great post maddyonesmile.

H&M as I understand it are using their public profile and connections to spotlight the different charities they support. As I understand it they are using their personal fortunes and money from Charles to live on, and topping it up with their earnings from interviews etc. They could keep quiet and drop the charities I suppose.

maddyone Fri 11-Jun-21 19:12:15

I seem to have crept into the above post, but neither parts of the two posts relate to what I was saying in my post.
Just saying.

Anniebach Fri 11-Jun-21 19:18:43

They could keep quiet and dropped the tv interviews trashing the royal family I suppose

Sparklefizz Fri 11-Jun-21 19:24:06

Exactly Annie !

^Read this morning, Diana’ wedding dress is now on display,^

I thought it was already as I remember seeing it at Althorp a while ago, Lucca.

It’s part of a new exhibition at Kensington Palace to coincide with her 60th birthday.

Aveline Fri 11-Jun-21 20:56:54

Her 60th! That seems incredible somehow. I wonder how her life would have gone.sad

Would you expect any other Head of State eg a president and all his entourage to fund himself?

I am puzzled why HM should be expected to do that.

Callistemon Fri 11-Jun-21 21:10:46

That was to trisher.

I really don't understand.

But no-one would notice them then.

No because a Head of State would be an individual and not a "Firm" as our RF like to refer to themselves apparently. They would therefore be paid for the work they did . They would not have many houses, house their extended family, use their family or other wise expend public money for their own purposes. If they undertook charity work it would be real charity work and not something they are already paid for. They would not bail out relatives who got into financial difficulties and dish jobs out to them. As it is the Firm is an out of date expanding anachronism which needs to be completely restructured or removed.

Callistemon Fri 11-Jun-21 22:23:30

It does seem to be a case of supply and demand, trisher.

If there was no demand for their services then they would not need to supply.

The demand doesn't seem to be decreasing despite a minority of Republicans wishing it to be so.

trisher Fri 11-Jun-21 22:43:47

Is there really demand though? Isn't the demand really simply for a celebrity? And if the RF stopped doing things wouldn't others simply fill the space. And then at least it would be possible to see those doing real work for charities with no remuneration and those who expect to be paid. It would also draw a clear line between state duties and charitable ones.

Aveline Fri 11-Jun-21 22:50:25

The Royal family seem to be great encouragers whose attendance and interest in a whole host of organisations large and small are really valued.

maddyone Fri 11-Jun-21 23:09:44

If we had an elected President, I assume there wouldn’t be time for him/her to be involved with all the various charities that the RF support. A celebrity from television or film wouldn’t have the same kudos as a member of the RF in my opinion.

Grany Sat 12-Jun-21 07:39:07

Charities do not benefit from royal patronage it was found by an independent report from Giving Evidence. Royals do not visit over 70% of charities only thoses they have an interest in and are all near to where they live.

Callistemon Sat 12-Jun-21 09:39:24

I'm sure if the charity wanted the likes of Lily Allen, Noel Gallagher, Little Mix etc they would ask them instead

Perhaps that says more about your age and social position than anything else. Younger people would certainly turn out in greater numbes for celebrities and I think a few older ones would as well.

Callistemon Sat 12-Jun-21 09:43:08

^And then at least it would be possible to see those doing real work for charities with no remuneration and those who expect to be paid.
So, who would fund the celebs to attend charity functions?
Presumably the charities themselves would have to do that, most certainly wouldn't fund it themselves.

If my tiny contribution of tax funds a member of the RF attending a worthwhile charity event, I am very relaxed about that.
It's another contribution from me.

Anniebach Sat 12-Jun-21 09:52:44

Grany I didn’t know so many of the royal family lived in Wales, do tell where Anne and Edward live in Wales

Callistemon Sat 12-Jun-21 09:54:04

Actually, I'm not sure that you're right.

So, a girl group or a young male rapper rock up to visit a primary school and try to show an interest in something other than themselves, how many fns would turn up?
Star struck teenagers, missing the point of the visit entirely?

If the Duchess of Cambridge turns up, people are interested in what she has to say and know that she is more interested in the children and their education then she is in herself.

There are exceptions, eg Marcus Rashford but his interests and excellent contributions are not as wide ranging. Perhaps one day.

Perhaps that says more about your age and social position
I never told them that you're in fact a Countess, maddyone, honestly!

Personally, I'd be more included to support a charity with Lily Allen supporting them, rather than one with an entitled aristocrat.
