I thought our Queen was brilliant. We do need to keep in with Trump though as his friendship is valuable.

I wonder whether maybe her maj "dripping in her rubies and diamonds" (everything I dislike about the royals grandma70s ) rather likes DT ? He is his own man and doesn't slither and slime like many of the other people she meets. It must be quite refreshing to meet someone with an opinion of their own and a sense of humour too.

I have only heard snippets of his speech which came across as very warm and sincere. The fact that the nugget that is Jeremy Corbyn wouldn't attend speaks volumes . I do hope he was sitting at home with beans on toast on a tray, feeling pleased with himself. Ignorant idiot that he is. It worries me as to what kind of relationship we would have with the USA if (god forbid) he ever came to power as PM.

Of course I didn’t think he wrote his own speech!

All those Trump lovers - is it a good thing that he employs all his family members? Not a bit dodgy? Do you really think he wrote his speech? His own speeches tend to embarrassingly repetitive ( she’s a great, great woman)

Actually I think Corbyn rants so DT isn’t the only one! This man is supposed to be leader of Her Majesty’s opposition, not some grubby little loser who shouts at Speakers' Corner.

I agree when ‘off piste’ he can say some embarrassing things. But here’s the thing. He’s very popular, gaffes or no. So much so that it’s likely he’ll get a second term in office.

The Democrats have lined up 20 prospective candidates in the primaries to challenge him. We shall see.

I know I’m in the minority stating I like the man!

But bear in mind Urmstongran that that speech was written for him. When he goes off script his speeches are very very different - immature, frequently mispronounced (if not even using the wrong words) repetitive and often ranting.
So a gold star to his speechwriters and however it was made sure he stayed on script!

Didn't the Queen once say she loved state banquets because she could get out 'all her best bits?'

This is a great honour for the Trumps and something they'll never ever forget.
Trump couldn't afford to put a foot wrong with his speech simply because he was an invited guest so kept his council. However, it was well meaning and the importance of remaining close to the USA is vital for the future of this country. We need them !

The main royals wear white at state banquets because they also wear sashes with honours on them.

I agree with Nankate, I’m certainly not a Trump fan, but I think we have to look at the wider picture, can we afford to offend the USA at the moment? Probably not!

As for the Queen, as gracious and regal as ever, she was definitely the star of the show!

I thought Donald Trump gave a wonderful speech to commemorate "D day" and the Queen. His speech was remarkable in its honesty and recognition of Britain's travails during 1939-45 as well as the mighty united effort from 1942 onwards. Well written by his advisers and he delivered it well.

I think the Queen and the President get on well together.

Although I don’t care for Trump I feel we have to keep good relations with the USA as we will need them when we leave the EU and he won’t be in office forever.

The Queen as ever was the shining light at the Banquet LLQ. Never puts a foot wrong.

Watching all the news about the various events and wondered why there were loads of white outfits, Melanie, The Queen, Camilla, Ivanka during the day then all of them plus Kate at the banquet and what was Theresa May wearing?

We're none of us getting any younger and I was struck by the sight of Trump, Prince Charles, Camilla and others on the wrong side of seventy staggering along as they made their way to the banquet.

Quite reassuring to know their hips and knees might be playing up.

I too thought, ‘here he goes’, but no very polite, bet his advisors needed a stiff drink or five.
