Get well soon from me also. Did he used to be in " Workers Playtime" way back in the days? I used to laugh so much that I would often miss bits as he was so quickfire.

Saw him in cabaret some 30 odd years ago, he was sooo funny, the show was supposed to finish at 11.30 but we were all still there at 12.30! He seemed to love it, they couldnt get him off, he said that it often happened when he was having a good time. Hope he gets better soon

Ken came to a couple of Show Home opening on Merseyside for a retirement Company and he would stay on 2/3 hrs after he should finish you could never get him off he was such a gentleman to all the people there at the time.

I saw him a couple of times in the 70's . My mum and dad used to take my sister and I on seaside holidays to Great Yarmouth where he was often doing the summer season. A very funny man. My late paternal grandma loved him singing Tears for Souvenirs and Happiness.

He often does shows in Torquay, and I was lucky enough to go to one of them about 3 or 4 years ago. He was amazing!
So funny and so clever and so tireless! I have always been a big fan, so now say "Get Well Soon Ken".

He appears at Whitley Bay playhouse every summer. My friend loves him and goes to see him everytime. Apparently, he still often goes over his time. Hope he gets well soon.

He was doing his show in Torquay when we were on holiday there in September. We tried to get tickets but they were all sold out. I hope he makes a good recovery.

Sorry to put a dampener on things but I can't abide him - I remember his tax dodging - he used offshore tax haven in Isle of Man. I wouldn't pay a penny to go and see him.
Wonder if he is occupying an NHS bed? He wasn't keen to pay towards public services but happy to use them perhaps?

I though he stashed it in suitscases in his attic ?

I`ve been a big fan for many years now, love him. I`ve only managed to see him once, at the Manchester Opera House in the 70s, but always watch when he`s on TV. Get well very soon Ken.

I thought he went to prison and served his time. Over and done with, in my book.

Never seen him live but don’t find him funny his tickling stick and sully words don’t do it for me at all

Ken Dodd got away with it.

He had 20 offshore accounts in Isle of Man and Jersey worth £1 million which he did not declare to the Revenue or to his own accountants - he'd made a declaration saying he had no other accounts - that was a lie - he said he didn't know the income was liable to UK tax - he received payments in cash - said he had to pay in cash to the Diddy Men (supposedly a joke?) - he was acquitted of deliberate tax evasion but had to pay £2 million in unpaid tax and costs. I saw a documentary about it years ago - they reckoned the Revenue made the mistake of taking him to court in Liverpool where he had the sympathy vote and if he'd been tried in London he'd never had got away with it. Guilty or not he evaded (illegal) or avoided (legal) tax on a huge scale - no better than all those tax avoiders with their offshore accounts that are currently the subject of so much criticism.

db he wouldn’t have ‘got away with it’ with you as a juror would he? However the case is over and done with, he was acquitted and we din’t (yet) have trial by media. Also IMO ‘they reckoned’ isn’t a very convincing argument.

My Mum liked Ken Dodd and would often sing "Happiness" and "Tears for Souvenirs" in the kitchen as she worked. For that reason alone, I am fond of him. I saw him in pantomimes a few times as a child. I hope he recovers.

Actually OldMeg I don't think sending someone to prison for tax evasion is a good thing - they should be fined a sizeable amount and pay the taxes that are due with a high interest rate imposed. I never understood the point of imprisoning Lester Piggot - and he was stripped of his OBE - whereas there are sitting members of the House of Lords who've been to prison and many celeb tax evaders get honours - inconsistent.
Although we don't have trial by media we do have shaming by media & by social media - the Paradise Papers are a recent example.
Our public services depend on us all paying our taxes - what would happen if we all avoided paying our share?
