Is the whole worldturning grey?

I quite agree. This so called grey plague is absolutely awful.

Grey is the new magnolia. As you say it is a neutral colour which can be brightened up by a feature wall in a room or accessories in kitchens and bathrooms. I rather like it.

I had my new kitchen installed in 2010. It is grey and white with green feature walls. It looks as good as new and I still love it.
I much prefer grey to beige!

Rosina, agreed - it's absolutely awful on masse - and so very last year too. I hate greige as well, so grimy and dull - just like diluted mud.

When I was a newly-wed red + white kitchens were in fashion.
Then green. I had green vellum kitchen cupboard doors and green carpets. Move forward to the late 80’s and everything went beige+brown, now it’s glossy white and greys.
When everyone is fed up with grey they will replace as and when they can.
It’s how manufacturers keep managing to persuade us to spend our money.

Grey absorbs energy and light, most boring colour ever

We resisted it recently when we had our house re-painted because our house is surrounded by trees and would look too dark. We’ve used milky maize even though some would say it is a bit out of date. We like it, nice and bright.

Grey is a neutral colour, but whilst it's popular there is a return of very vibrant colours too. All depends on setting and room sizes as to what tones look best.

We have quite a bit of grey here and there. Featured walls are papered. Taupe is a lovely colour we use. In our hallway it’s a colour called Feathers of a dove which is a green grey. It’s definately the new magnolia. I like the new green colour windows you see a lot now.

I am waiting for grey to be out of fashion before I choose my new kitchen. I hope it isn't too long away! I personally don't like it.

I would like to have grey carpets as I don't like the beige ones that came with the flat. I have always liked grey.

I really dislike grey, I’m so bored with all the home magazines because they are just a sea of grey, and although they are lovely, every kitchen runs the length of the house, and has bifold windows.
I confess to loving colour, mainly into purples and lime greens at the moment, gradually replacing all the reds and creams, which now look dated. Not a hint of grey anywhere.

I was in B&Q buying (not grey) paint yesterday. I was fascinated by the amount of space filled with grey paint and emulsion. Every shade of pebble/stone/slate/ concrete imaginable.

Definitely the new magnolia Sarnia I don't mind some grey but it's so overdone now it's boring.

I’ve just had the curtain lady to sort out my bedroom curtains - definitely not grey - why would you when there are so many glorious colours?

She said that she is beyond bored with making grey curtains.

I think the idea of grey and magnolia is to create a blank canvas that the new owner can add any vibrant colour they choose. It would be no use using a more pronounced colour which might then clash with their favourite colour! They want to appeal to the majority of people and grey does go with a huge range of colours.

I love grey with splashes of colour..

AGAA4 I have a grey carpet downstairs and I hate it, it looks permanently grubby and sucks the light out of a bright room. It’s coming up this year and a light engineered wood floor is going down.

We also have friends whose house is almost entirely white or off white including the carpet. Needless to say they have never had children or animals.

I’m guilty as charged with grey but only because it shows off rich bold colours and pattern so brilliantly.

Not to mention, houseplants, pictures and their frames and absorbs lighting rather than bouncing it back at you.

Sage and gin bottle green look great with any shades of grey. I’m glad the monochrome look is on the way out but I think grey will be around for a while longer.

The showrooms are always full of grey, though I have seen a few dark blues creeping in.
