Decor: wallpaper or paint

Prefer painted walls - more versatile than patterned wallpaper and pictures/framed photos look better on a plain wall I always think. I do like a feature wall, but haven’t got one. It would take me an age to choose the right paper as i’m quite indecisive! Our walls are also a light colour - mostly Farrow & Ball.

We also like a feature wall but just in the sitting room. Paint everywhere else.
Feature walls were fashionable in the 70’s but I think they are back! (‘though I’m no fashion guru).
We’re just changing a feature wall which is mainly ochre yellow , to turquoise and it gives me an opportunity to change a window blind and cushions to pick out the turquoise too.

Yes, I know this is 'wallpaper or paint' - but I'm very happy with my latest project - a panelled wall.

I didn't want to pay a fortune to have that wall replastered. I didn't want the mess either.

It was very easy to do and looks great!

We have a lot of wood panelling but otherwise just paint. I don’t like wallpaper, it looks kind of old fashioned but very few here use it and I don’t know if you can even get it.

Our ‘rustic’ kitchen walls are half tongue-and-groove panelled and we like it - it’s very durable and easily wiped behind the bin where there are usually splashes.

I've flicked through a few pages of posh hotels and suites. It seems to me they nearly all have striking wallpapers prints. Sometimes wallpaper identitifies who we are more clearly than paint?

Lillie - maybe that’s why I needed 40 plus paper samples for my cloakroom but only five paint samples!

Talking of wallpaper, did anyone watch Interior Design Masters on Tuesday? Each contestant had to design a hotel room to be used as a bridal suite. The contestant who was voted off used a multitude of different wallpapers. Some walls were in colourful flowered papers and others in large black and white chevrons. It was way over the top and very extreme. It gave me an instant migraine! Great programme though - and good for design inspiration. I think that wallpaper is coming back into fashion.

Always paint. Although I could possibly be tempted by hand printed wall paper.

Rooms we spend most time in are painted in neutral colours, I agree that pictures don't sit well on patterned walls.

But I do love wallpaper, especially William Morris, and have a WM paper in one of our bathrooms and one bedroom......on the upper part of the walls, the lower bit being wood panelling.

I love Victorian houses, sadly mine isn't but I have aimed for a sort of Victorian shabby chic style. Means I can get away with being untidy.

I had such fun choosing rather cooky wallpaper for odd areas of our new (to us) hour 2 years ago for the ensuite, downstairs loo and stairwell.
Didn't want it in any of the bedrooms living room or kitchen. Loved choosing it and now living with it.

Wallpaper can look lovely, and I admire it in my friends house, but for my home, it's paint every time. It's so much easier, all that paper stripping when it's time to redecorate us definitely not for me! ?

Same as LauraNorder, plain walls - so many beautiful shades of paint to choose from - then add colours with soft furnishings, artwork, rugs etc.
