Just finished gs room, had to suit two ages 14 & 6 yrs.

First time I have tried anything like this, I love diy and decorating.

Might need your shades on I am well chuffed with it.

It used to be wallpaper in every room, but in recent years we’ve just used paint.
As many on here say, it’s easier and quicker to change. My worst nightmare? When we used to paper the ceilings!

Remember anaglypta wallpaper?

Grrr! Yes me! I'm battling with the wretched stuff now! When I bought this house 18 months ago, I stripped the anaglypta off every wall, in every room, and had the walls replastered/skimmed and painted in F&B. Except the hall stairs and landing. And how I bitterly regret that now. Painting it is a real pain, you go through litres more paint, it dries in patches, missed bits are glaringly obvious and doing the gloss woodwork that abuts it is a nightmare. Paint straight onto smooth perfect plaster every time for me.

When I was able and did my own decorating, I actually found that to wallpaper rooms was quicker and easier than painting,. Maybe small areas were good for painting, but putting up wallpaper covered such large area in a short amount of time. Wallpaper, to me also looks cosier.

Having done paint for decades, I'm now veering towards paper. It's easier to get a perfect finish - more reliable, cleaner, less work - and available in plain colours too!

Possibly that is the answer vegansrock. The more expensive the wallpaper, the better the finish and the look.

We have one wall with wallpaper in the living room. It was v expensive £60 a roll I think, so it’s not a cheap option. The rest of the room is either grey or white paint with artwork/ bright textiles. It’s mid century style.

You can get some lovely wallpapers now. Linwood do some great ones and I like Lewis and Wood aswell

We have mostly paint, one bit of birdie wallpaper in the dining room. I think it’s very much a question of individual taste. Paint is definitely easier.

In our last house, the wallpaper in the hall had been put up with paste, glue, sellotape - you name it and it had been used. It was extremely difficult to get off the wall. I did ask a decorator for a quote, £500 to strip the walls (this was 20 years ago!!). That was a challenge for me. I painted the walls, then sponged them with a sort of pattern - it camouflaged the bumps and lumps on the walls. Was extremely time consuming because it was upstairs and downstairs. I found a border than almost matched - it worked a treat. I sponged the rest of the house, the rest of the rooms were quick and easy to do.

Paint every time for me. Big canvases on the walls for colour. Cushions, furniture, plants. I feel that wallpaper can make a room too busy.

By the way, John Lewis send out big free samples of the wallpapers they stock. You can choose up to 6 designs.

Of course, you should paint your house, do not spoil your wall with wallpapers. I have used cartooned wallpaper for my kid's room. Now feeling regretted. Because my kid's cartoon mind had changed!!! They all were grown up, and now they need standard colors. Once you use wallpapers, it is tough to remove and re-paint them. It's a time-consuming process and money wastage. You can use LED light hanging for improving the beauty.

Paint for me. Chalk white. Interest added by hanging prints or patterned curtains etc. An easier life altogether.

I spent 19 years living in houses we were only allowed to paint - often we weren’t even allowed to choose the colours! I said when we had a house of our own, I would have wallpaper. But the walls in a 1930’s semi were a challenge, so we fell back on textured vinyl, which didn’t show defects, but it had to be painted. In this house, the walls are good enough to paper but we decided that paint was less trouble. There are some fabulous wallpapers available now, though, and I am often tempted!

I have wallpaper in one bedroom and it was also in the kitchen a couple of times - otherwise it's paint everywhere.
I've always been the one to do the decorating and I can't see me doing any more wallpapering, however trendy it is.
That's a nice idea about small, unexpected pieces of wallpaper, tho, eazybee.

Have never had wallpaper all our married life, nearly 49 years.

Can remember some wallpaper on my bedroom wall when I was little. It had Japanese figures on it, I loved it.

We have wallpaper on one wall to cover uneven plaster where a fireplace was removed. I hang it myself so much cheaper than a plasterer.
We are moving soon and hopefully it will just need a coat or two of paint.

Paint for us every time. Not had wallpaper for over 35 years. Our family have all gone for wallpaper though, guess Mum and Dad are behind the times, again .

Definitely paint. Then nice things of your own can be hung on walls, as liked, such as family photos of chosen artworks.

I have always loved William Morris designs, and might buy some wallpaper for my new bungalow. Still deciding on a style - might go Bloomsbury instead.
