A note about toothpaste

Im another acidosis user. Its flavour has changed,it used to be salty. DH would rather not clean his teeth than use it! 😆

I have must looked at my bottle of Fsith in Nature shampoo and it contains ammonium lauren sulfate. Is that different? Anyone know?

Not forgetting many shampoos also contain that dicey ingredient. I was surprised at just how many - cue for I had to throw out the one I was using....

I gather "Faith in Nature" is a reasonably priced one that hasn't got that ingredient...

As a hygienist, I’m not a fan of Corsodyl , you should only use it for 2 weeks max . It’s designed for short term use , post surgery or infection and it stains your teeth . Plus there has been a few deaths from anaphylactic shock .

Thats interesting, because when I had my severe adverse reaction to Corsodyl, my dentist told me he had never seen an adverse reaction to the product until I had one.,

I remember seeing my doctor years ago about the fact I kept getting bleeding in my mouth and I started using toothpaste without sls.

I had a friend who had a problem with sodium lauryl sulphate as well. It is the foaming agent in many products. As I occasionally have the same problem, Nandalot, which toothpaste are you using now?

I have changed to Sensodyne pronamel.

Yes, I use that one usually, not always.

SLS is the foaming agent in toothpaste and it’s very common that it can irritate soft dental tissues, especially gums and the inside of cheeks . As well as ulcers , it’s implicated in Lichen Planus and Burning Mouth Syndrome. I tend to recommend Sensordyne pro enamel as it’s sls free but still has fluoride which is good for sensitivity.

I buy toothpaste, and many other hygiene and skin care products from Holland and Barrett.

I cannot use Corsodyl in any form. I am violently allergic to its special ingredient. My dentist recommended to wash out one side of my mouth with it, after an implant. my face swelled like a balloon and I had a huge bruise along the jawline of that side of my mouth, An acquaintance thought I was a victim of domestic violence. She didn't say so in so many words but the careful direction of her comments made it clear what she thought., which considering she knew DH, I found quite upsetting. In the end I showed her my new implant and the redness round it.

That’s very interesting. It has made me think of the chemicals we are putting into our mouths so I am going to buy toothpaste from our local health shop which I’ve been meaning to do anyway.

That’s a good thought about specific ingredients causing a problem, thank you.

But check the ingredients as some kingfisher pastes do have sodium laurel sulphate in them.

We use Kingfisher - there are lots of flavours and most of them have added fluoride which is good!!!
