Heart medication and low blood pressure

I'm sorry to read this. You say your blood pressure is "very low". How low?

You may find coming off Bisoprolol is very helpful When I was on it my heart rate became very low. I hope you get an appointment with your cardiologist soon as he will be the one to sort out the medication and your side effects. It took quite a bit of manipulation before my meds were sorted.

What is a "cholesterol specialist"? Is it a doctor?
I'm sure your cardiologist will sort out the right balance. It's true that bisoperol lowers the BP

BP ranged from 99/48, 107/56, to 113/55. When I saw the consultant at the lipid clinic, they were concerned and took me off the Bisoprolol. I am waiting to hear from the cardiologist and hope also to get a GP appointment. Thank you ladies for your comments.

You have been taken off the bisoprolol for good reason. Its job is to lower BP and heart rate. Since your BP is already low then it looks as though you do not need it and it is doing more harm than good.

Do you have any idea when your cardiology appointment might be? If not then contact the hospital and ask them if they can give you estimate. If you see your GP I suspect she will just take your BP and endorse what you have already been asked to do.

If it were me I would not worry too much and just stop them as asked.

I am sorry you are battling medication side effects. It is such a pain.

I resisted a recent attempt to start me on Bisoprolol as I don't have high blood pressure and it drops when I stand up. I think the cardiologists think it takes some strain off the heart to keep the b/p low but its not good if you become at risk of falling.
Its horrible feeling dizzy.
I hope things settle down for you.

Similarly some of the heart meds I am on are designed to make sure my heart is relieved of strain, but they reduce my BP and make life very difficult and frankly unsafe when I am on my own.

Bisoprolol is a beta blocker and it's job is to reduce the heart rate. I wouldn't be surprised if your cardiologist withdrew this medication. I was on this until a 48 tape showed very low heart rate and it was stopped. I felt like a zombie on it.

My sister is on Bisoprolol and has been suffering frequent nose bleeds. Has anyone else experienced this?

Healthy active 78 yr old DH has a naturally low heart rate ( 50 ish) . Probably all his life, but he only found out 30 yeara ago when his running group started monitoring their heart rates.

His BP ( checked monthly and recorded online for GP) is normally in your 2nd and 3rd ranges above. Lower than average but normal for him.

Remember "normal range " has a lower end and a higher end. We're not all average.

50 bpm would be quite high for me! Mine is usually 38 - 42!

Blimey! Are you an athlete or exceptionally fit?

My DH is on bisoprolol for atrial fibrillation and has ceased having blood pressure tabs because the meds bring it down.
He has random attacks of AF when he can be sleeping but his heart rate can be as high as 170bpm, he wears a smart watch so can be alerted to this and will give him another bisoprolol to bring it down.
But his blood pressure was quite high so never goes too low.

I am definitely not an athlete but my heart rate is usually 50 ish too, blood pressure generally on the low side but been as low as 75/35 following an outpatient procedure. My feet and legs below the knee, hands, nose and toes are often very cold whatever the weather and I wonder about my circulation.
I am 77, reasonably healthy , walk a lot and take no regular medication. I had a blood test a few weeks ago but still waiting for the result. I have asked….

I'm sure you know that "normal" bpm is between 60-100, apart from exceptionally fit athletes. If I were you, I'd ask for more than a blood test, which won't give you the reason for exceptionally low bpm.

(But I'm no medic and I'm not you.)

Blood pressure that low is dangerous you will have a dizzy spell and a fall is likely.
Go back to your GP and change the meds
