Anal trouble

Pruritus Ani is very common. I suffer from it. I do have haemorrhoids (internal mainly) . But I have no miracle cure. I hope someone will come up with something. I live in hope. I suffer from IBS and that doesn’t help.

Thank you crazyH. I can sympathise. I have trouble completing my toilet and having to rewipe etc. Been going on for years but never had this intense problem. Got to get out as have things to do etc. Didn’t realise it was called Pruitus Ani.

Many years ago a GP suggested antihistamine for anal itching. I take Clarityn when this presents a problem. Works for me.

Fullers Earth cream not so easy to get now but Amazon have it

A few years ago ‘Trust me, I’m a Doctor’ Michael Mosley recommended Gladskin products. They can be bought on line as they are only classed as essential oils and very kind to the skin, but they pack a powerful punch in dealing with irritations down below. A bit pricey but worth it for some comfort. I keep some of the eczema gel in the fridge for these sort of annoying moments.

1% hydrocortisone cream can help, but can be caused by fungal infection. Ask pharmacist.

When DH was in hospital with sepsis and similar associated problems, he was given a honey based barrier cream to cope with the soreness (no itching though).
It’s called Medihoney and available from Amazon at under a tenner.

Spottybook do you mean you take the tablets so wonder if Piriton could help.

Medihoney sounds a possibility Georgesgran. Honey worked a miracle on my leg ulcer a few months ago. Will look up Gladskin products as well.thank you all so much. It really is a pain in the butt.

By the most amazing coincidence I have just discovered Wype a gel you squirt onto clean loo paper (after the first wipe) and repeat as necessary.
It's not like wet wipes which you can't flush but I can honestly say that since I got it last week, shall we say my "nether regions" have never felt so comfortable.
Previously I used to use Cavillon barrier cream but that didn't address never feeling quite clean.
I have 2 sizes, one for the loo and 1 I can keep.in my handbag for when I'm out.
(I bought it from Amazon by the way.)
I do recommend it.

Temporarily hydrocortisone cream but for long term prevention a smear of zerobase twice a day.
Wype is good, especially the travel size

Lovetopaint037 I have only ever taken Clarityn either one in the morning OR one at night when needed and this has worked for me. I don’t know anything about Piriton other than my son takes it for hay fever but if it is an antihistamine then it ought to do the trick. Lots of other interesting remedies from other posters. Never heard of Wype but looks a good product for travel.

Thank you Rosie that sounds really useful. Just the sort of thing I need. Spottybook I found two out of date Piriton last night so took one. This morning I am feeling a definite improvement (afraid to say that). Am around to Pharmacy this morning as I always have these to stop endless nose pouring etc which occurs at certain times.

I thought I had hemorrhoids once on holiday drove me nuts. Once back home went to the GP I had skin Thrush in that area.
Application x 2 a day sorted with 24 hrs.

Stop wiping, and soak your bottom in warm to hot water instead. Pat dry after the area is absolutely clean.
A bidet , or a basin you can sit in is essential.

PS You will need at least two changes of warm water. Topical medications are good but need to be gentle with an area that is sore and maybe inflamed.

I have found this to be very soothing and really does stop the terrible itching. I took a look and it does seem to be sold in the UK. Good luck, I feel your pain.

Canesten Athletes Foot Cream is 1% hydrocortisone and an anti fungal. I have used that or Daktacort on alternate days for decades with no ill effects and complete suppression of irritation. Use only the smallest amount.
