Dupuytren's contracture operation

Margaret THatcher had this done it can run in families . My ucle had it and recovered well.

My friend had this op this year, her two fingers are no different still as curled over as ever, but she’s had a lot of pain they even suggested the possibility of amputation but she’s loathed to go down that route because of phantom pain

Is it too late to have a needle apeuronectomy?

My DH has had two ops.
Were they successful? Must have been because he can use his hands although they are still a bit bent!

Had mine done about seven years ago. I wasn’t aware that it may return but so far so good for me.

My husband has this but not bad enough for surgery. A friend had successful surgery but it returned after several years when he had a successful second surgery.

My DH had surgery on both hands (not at the same time). Recovery was awkward for the first week but it really has helped him. The condition cannot be completely cured, but eases the contracture so your hand is usable again.

You should have the surgery sooner rather than later because when a finger is curled for so long everything contracts so it is difficult to straighten the finger again.

I also try to keep my finger straight. I am left handed so it would be very inconvenient.

I’m 72 and have had the condition for some years. It affects two fingers on my left hand and all four on the right. All to varying degrees ranging from slightly bent to turned right in. It isn’t painful and I won’t have surgery because after all the pain and inconvenience post-op it’s likely to return. Over the years I have learned to manage perfectly well.

My mother had surgery and it worked for about 5 years then gradually returned and the finger was then curled over completely.

My brother had surgery and it did return but very gradually and after 10 years it was partially pulled down.

My ring finger is starting to tighten and I am stretching it daily in order to put off the inevitable.

There doesn’t seem to be a full cure but surgery does seem to give a temporary respite.

My Dad had it and the first op was not a success. The second one was.
