I've got Covid

In the supermarket this morning a young woman served me who I know. It’s very well spaced out, light and airy but she was wearing a mask.

No other staff or customers were wearing them so I asked her if she was poorly. She said she has never stopped wearing a mask since covid started because she serves 100s of people every day and “there’s still a lot of covid about”. I don’t think I have known anybody who has had covid for the last year and it is so mild you hardly know you have it.

I've had 5 vaccinations and never had Covid. What does that tell me?

So let's get this straight....
you followed the rules and did what you thought was right when the Government told you to.
You took their advice regarding all things Covid.

But now, when the Government tells you that Covid is downgraded, you can go to work, don't have to isolate, don't have to let anyone know, it's virtually all gone away, you DON'T believe them, or follow their advice. I just don't understand this outpouring of continued fear.

Why is anyone even 'announcing' they have Covid? It's like you are wearing an achievement medal.
Pre Covid, you wouldn't announce you had a cold, it's the same damn thing! Cold/gastric virus.

Covid is not the same thing as a cold and it will never be, however many times it mutates. A cold enters the body via the respiratory tract, where it usually triggers an immune response (phlegm, a cough) and is killed.

Covid enters the body via Ace-2 receptors, which are present on many different organs. It's the immune response by the different organs which causes damage and can leave people with long-term after effects.

Get well soon Allsorts. I think I may have had 'it' as I had an upset stomach which lasted for a few days, I had a headache for days, heavy legs and arms and was so tired. I developed an overnight sore throat and a dry cough. I didnt think to test until after two weeks and that was negative. Having previously had an awful illness I was so worried I may be having a relapse. As Sparklefizz has said not many people wear masks and I do sometimes feel the only one who bothers.

I caught covid on last day of holiday for 1st time in May. For me it was a slightly sore throat for 2 days, temperature for 1 day, then very bad cold for a week. OH caught it from me and had brain fog, temperature for a week, headaches and bad cold so much worse than me even though I have a pre-existing lung condition. He's had 4 vaccines and I've only had 3.
I'm seriously wondering if these 'vaccines' do any good at all. Plenty of vaccinated people have been hospitalised with Covid as have unvaccinated.
It's also been proven that masks, unless sealed respirator masks, do not protect against viruses at all as the particles are small enough to pass through both ways. But they keep advising more vaccines and some are convinced disposable masks still protect you. So the companies keep selling them.

Agree - I hadn't had the merest sniffle for over 12 years (Very unwell with other things mind) until I had those first 2 vaccines, sort of pushed onto me as I am CEV. I am having no more, especially after reading that the new SKYCovion Vaccine on it's own Govt 'blurb' states that "Efficacy has not been evaluated as part of the clinical trial programme" and worse in my book "The efficacy, safety and immunogenicity of the vaccine have not been assessed in immunocompromised individuals, including those receiving immunosuppressant therapy" Yet who will it be pushed on? Those like myself who are CEV ....

Different types of Covid have different levels of severity. Omicron (the variant last winter/spring) is relatively mild - my whole family had it in April/May and we were all OK after about a week.

However the new mutation seems to be much more severe as DH had it a few weeks ago (having had Omicron in May). He works in a hospital so gets exposed to the newest variants. Luckily we sent him to the spare room in time so he kept it to himself - but he was really ill, despite 5 vaccinations. We were on the verge of calling an ambulance at one point and he still has a horrible chesty cough a month later.

Thank you everyone for your best wishes. Luckily our son in law seems on the mend, now. We were going to visit them this week, but have decided against that!

Touch wood I have never tested positive for Covid and I have had 3 vaccinations. Any symtoms, or cold, I still test although I don't wear a mask. If I am offered another vaccination I will have it.
My thoughts are with your son in law Joannapianno I hope the medication makes him feel better.

Our son in law just had a heavy cold for a few days. He decided to take a test and was surprised it turned out to be COVID. I go on the website In Your Area and COVID statistics are published every Thursday evening. Numbers are still very low.

Allsorts sounds like it's the new mutantion of the COVID virus you have got. Like flu it mutates and like flu it's s here to stay. People have become complacent about it and forgotten how serious it can be.

Scrapping the Covid app was a mistake and needs bring back . And the numbers of people with Covid needs to be posted for each area again. During the hot weather couldn't wear my mask as it made me breathless. But as it's colder my mask is going back on.

Sounds like the one I had a long time ago. Didn't expect the stomach upset, think was linked to the very high temperature .

Your post confirms what many here have said, this virus is prevalent unpredictable and still a bit scary

Our son in law currently has COVID, for the second time. He has Stage 4 cancer and therefore a compromised immune system, like my husband. He phoned 111 and anti virals have been delivered to him today, that have to be taken for a week.
We had COVID in January last year. DH, with cancer treatment, over it in 5 days. Me, just with mild asthma, the full works that went on and on!

Aww so sorry Allsorts. It’s not going away is it. You’ve been unlucky though to have had it so many times. I had it for the first time in April and was just like you, not nice at all.
I wore a mask when I went out, but not many people seem to be doing that now.

It is certainly raging around here, all I keep hearing is about people who have it. I hope you manage to fight it off without any lasting effects, like many virus infections it can be very nasty. On the positive side, you are now immune to that particular strain!

My son's in-laws had it recently after a holiday.
Second time they have come back from somewhere with it.
I think there's still quite a lot about but obviously not as terrible as it once was.

So sorry, Allsorts. You've been unlucky, getting it four times.
I had it for the first time in March this year and was amazed at how very ill I felt.
I hope you feel better very soon and never catch it again.
I hear it's on the increase around here. Maybe we should all start taking precautions again?

It's quite strange that we're encouraged to put it in the past - when it's still very active around here. Family and friends have mainly had three or four illnesses (with different variants) while I've been lucky to avoid it - so far. I think I must have had it, though - but just with no symptoms.
