If there was any serious evidence that turmeric helped prevent dementia the big drug companies would be manufacturing it by the tonne, and making billions worldwide.
Something that's mainly available in the likes of Holland & Barrett is not going to protect you from dementia.
I’m always forgetting to take my golden paste and am not convinced that taking capsules actually works unless you add pepper and oil. But I realised recently that I can add turmeric powder to scrambled egg or omelettes, which I eat a lot. One of those things that can’t do any harm and might just be of benefit, especially if it’s just added to food.
Plenty of proper studies that show that it can really help. As said before, Big Pharmas are very keen to discredit any medicine that is natural and easily available, for obvious reasons.
sadly, Big Pharmas are trying to discredit research on Turmeric, as it is easily available, and relatively cheap. Big Pharmas want t push new drugs they can make lots of money on- not natural products.
Extract of Turmeric (can get from Holland&Barrett) have been proven to help, as a strong anti inflamatory. Always check with GP or medical team to ensure compatible with other medications.
Well this is a turn up. Took a second urine sample to the GP today and it turns out Mum actually has a urine infection! She has had two CT scans!!!
Very common but worrying. make sure she drinks plenty of fluids as it may happen again when she finished the antibiotics. It’s not easy I know getting older people to drink more but do try.
If she hasn’t got dementia - as you say, normal cognitive decline. Then no tablet is going to slow this down. The medication that my mum takes for vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s arrests or slows down the. symptoms . See what the consultant says.
As far as I’m aware there is no medication to slow down vascular dementia. But as your mother doesn’t have this I think you need to await the advice from her medical referral.
Mum is 92, recently had a ct scan which revealed she has normal cognitive decline and that she does NOT have vascular dementia. I am so pleased. I have been pushing for a memory clinic appointment for her in the hope she can have some medication. Does the medication stop, slow or reverse the decline? What meds are available please? She has been referred to two places to see which will see her quickest.
