Stage 3 kidney disease

Sorry to hear this. My husband has been undergoing kidney tests recently and we are at the hospital again on Thursday.

I don’t know about travel insurance but my niece was in a horrific car accident 18 months ago and has had a very reasonable quote from M & S insurance and she declared every single injury …. Broken neck, brain damage, eye problem, fingers amputated, pain all down one side etc etc. give them a try! Xxx

I was diagnosed with stage 3 over 30 years ago. It’s remained stage 3 - no problems and no problems getting travel insurance

I was only told three years ago that I was diagnosed with stage 3 kidney disease about eight years ago. I was shocked and worried but annoyed to be told the meds I was on for arthritis probably caused it.
I have tests every year sometimes the results are quite high so I increase fluids. It’s not affected my travel insurance in any way so don’t worry about that. NHS have a good site that explains all about kidney disease you might find it helpful.

Redhead I can see why you are annoyed that arthritis meds caused this. I am increasing my fluid intake and drinking more water.

Redhead, I was diagnosed before getting meds for arthritis but I’m sure they don’t help the kcd though they do help the RA. I find drinking lots of water before blood tests helps

I have had stage 3 kidney disease for over 20 years. I was very worried when I first found out but it makes no difference other than regular blood tests and remembering to keep hydrated.

Sorry to hear you’re dealing with this. Having kidney disease, especially at stage 3, means your kidneys are moderately damaged — they’re still working but less effectively. It’s a good time to focus on controlling things like blood pressure and blood sugar, following a kidney-friendly diet, and working closely with your doctor to slow down any further loss of function.

I have stage 3 CKD.
I have been told to keep hydrated and stop adding salt to food. No more ibuprofen either.
The diagnosis means I am entitled to a free flu jab (I'm not quite 65) but am no longer eligible for the Covid jab.

There is no medical intervention other than regular blood tests until you reach stage 4.

jaxjacky I am interested to know why you reported this old post.

I have had kidney problems for over twenty years and now have reached stage 4 and lead a very normal life. I am not on dialysis.

I do suggest you do keep to the dietary guidelines that you will be given. Learn what foods contain ingredients that you should keep to a minimum like salt, bananas and processed meats. I avoid convenience foods as they often contain forbidden fruits.

I cannot now get insurance for travel, (the last time the insurance was more than the cost of the holiday) but I have other conditions that will be contributing factors. I am sure, as others have said, that you will not have problems.
