All cancer is serious, but what is the outlook for cancer of the womb?

Unigran I’m sorry. This must have come as a shock for you.
As with most things, the sooner investigated the better.
My dear sister in law had cancer of the womb. She had a total hysterectomy and other bits removed. During the procedure they ‘nicked’ the spleen and she had to have that removed too. She had two serious operations (the womb and removal of spleen) then had a period of chemotherapy. She went on to have many years of good and enjoyable life. Her grandchildren were young when she had the op but fully grown and at work long before she eventually died of something different.

My Mum used to say “Where there’s life, there’s hope “ - treatments these days are so far advanced. You are obviously having a full hysterectomy? I’m not medically qualified and don’t know much. I’m sure someone will come along soon and enlighten you further

There is so much more treatment now for cancer and your oncology team are the best ones to tell you what will be best for you.

My friend had this.

Total hysterectomy. It was a shock as she was 48 and, we thought, fit as a fiddle

14 years later she's here and has been cancer free for 10 years

Please keep expecting the best I m sure you will have a good outcome and they will take it out asap they are very good at speed when needed in my opinion even if it has travelled with chemo and radiography

So sorry to hear this. Please ask for an appointment with the specialist nurse who should be part of the team. They will have the information on your case and the treatments that that is available, also will be able to answer our questions individually.

So sorry to hear this, and quite understand your concern, as DH has blood cancer, and I've been successfully treated for three occurrences of skin cancer, one of which was melanoma.. the nasty one. No-one here is qualified to comment on your prognosis, as this is clearly a matter for your specialist, who will most certainly advise you once all the results are in. What I will say is that the outlook is so much better now than it was even 5 years ago, as treatments are advancing so rapidly, and outcomes are statistically so much better. Might I suggest that you check out the MacMillan website, which has discussion threads for individual cancer types, and which DH and I have both found to be most supportive and educational. There's a chatline as well where you can talk to others who have had similar problems.
Or perhaps get in touch with Macmillan who have lots of support to give,

Macmillon are so helpful and your hospital will give you a specialist nurse you can ring and talk to any time for information and support ( well our hospital does )

I have been bleeding since the end of January this year. I got a doctor's appointment immediately and have been sent for all the right investigations. I saw the consultant who told me I had cancer of the womb and that it was advanced.

Bloods and CT scan done, MRI next week. The bleeding is now very heavy and I am deadly tired.

Basically, what are my chances? I don't think I'll see next Christmas, but am I being too gloomy?

It depends on what stage and whether it has spread. The investigations being done will give more information for you.

Take the advice given re treatment and please do get in touch with Macmillan for advice and support. I truly do understand what you are going through, it's so hard and scary.

I'm sorry to hear your news Unigran and hope you will get the right surgery/treatment as a matter of urgency.
As others advised, do get in touch with the team, tell them how you feel and ask where you are on the list.

If you are bleeding heavily, you will feel tired as you may be getting anaemic. Can you ask your GP for a blood test and, if so, some treatment for anaemia?

I know someone who had this. She had a total hysterectomy including ovaries and lymph nodes. Then chemo, then radiotherapy. She’s cancer free now and enjoying life. Don’t lose hope, have the treatment and get well.

I second maddyone my sister had the same all the treatment and hasn’t looked back. Be strong think positive and I wish you well.

It's hard to be positive right now I expect, but such big improvements in cancer treatment mean your outlook will most likely be much better than you think. A few months ago I feared the worst for my brother, but he is now well on the way to being cancer free.

I had Endometrial Cancer 9 years ago they thought it was originally a Fibroid.. Luckily stage 1 but grade 4.
I was operated on 4 weeks after diagnosed, total Hysterectomy, overies out, Cervix out, even x2 Lymph nodes. I then had crashing Menopause, omg!
After op. Radiotherapy. I was followed up for 5 years (could be discharged at 3 my choice)

Your world crashes in, I was also waiting for a Hip replacement, my dad was ill (he died 1 hour after my 1st round of Radiotherapy) it was a bad time.
Hysterectomy was in the Aug my Hip Oct... 3 months later, (where my leg got broken putting in the joint) unbelievable!
To say that was the worse 6 months of my life is an understatement!

But.. That is now coming up for 9 years ago... I forget I had Cancer.
You will get support and as mentioned speak to Macmillan Nurses they are amazing, as one of them said to me, you don't need those bits now!
