Nannyto3, you have done the right thing. What ever the cause of your DH's problems, they need to be diagnosed and treated.

Straight off I must say I have absolutely no medical knowledge. ADHD I think gets diagnosed in children under age of seven. That is not to say that he has not slipped through the net, but you would have known these traits about him. Please get him to a doctor straight away. It’s easier to deal all round when you know what you are dealing with. If your husband won’t go, you can talk to his GP anyway and give him/her your concerns, they will guide you.

If it turns out to be a Dementia diagnosis please contact the Alzheimer's Society where you will find all sorts of help.

Thank you all so much for your advice. I saw the GP earlier and explained OH's symptoms. She immediately arranged for him to be called in for a review of the medication for his high blood pressure, as a pretext for an examination, blood test etc.
He has no idea I went and seemed quite happy with being phoned and given an appointment.

Perhaps get in touch with a support group for relatives of Alzheimer's patients. They will be better able to help and advise you.

I agree with everyone else this is not ADD, which is something you are born with like dyslexia and dyspraxia. Sadl,y I also agree that this could be the onset of dementia.

Nannyto3, I think that all the posters here have hit the nail on the head. It sounds like early onset dementia of some kind. Please find a way of getting your OH seen by his GP.

With you too Humbertbear ! I’ve done this twice to close family members ! Out of sheer love, not interference.

If he won’t go to the GP, ask the GP to call him in for a check up. That worked with my dad who said ‘I’m glad the GP called me in, I don’t feel well’. I’ve also used the same tactics with my husband.

I was going to say onset dementia, dragonfly. The hallmarks are there.

If he didn’t act like this as a child/adolescent I doubt it’s only appearing at his age now. I would consider other health reasons maybe a trip to your GP if you can persuade him

It sounds like a friends husband who has dementia.
