RIP Steve Hewlett

I didn't hear any of the shows but I salute him and his bravery.
To die with one's family around and Bob Dylan playing, well it can't get much better than that...........bless him.

I listened too, Eddie Mair, as you say, was a good interviewer. So sad to hear about Steve yesterday, but not unexpected. We need people to talk about all life experiences, it informs us, whether it is good or bad, it enables us to understand our lives.

Imo Steve Hewlett was a gifted communicator as well as a brave and inspiring human being. I always looked forward to his thoughts and reports on issues of the day and latterly his talks with Eddie Mair on such a personal matter were so moving. He will be sadly missed.

Yes, the series of interviews with Eddie Mair were brilliant broadcasting. Steve's family should be very proud of him.

My brother died last year from cancer Wouldn't talk about it .How I wish he could have shared some of the feelings he must have had .A gifted communicator using that gift in a very personal way RIP indeed

Quite how Eddie Mair managed to keep his composure yesterday is beyond me.

We could hear the love and respect in Eddie's voice during their discussions regarding Steve's condition and treatment over the months.

I totally agree. I was amazed at how Steve could talk so openly about his illness and the wonderfully empathetic way Eddie Mair chatted to him during their weekly talks. So inspiring even though there was such a tragic ending.

I am sorry to hear if steve's sad death, i too listened to the very open duscussion between eddie and steve on r4 and was moved by steves bravery. Our daughter has just been diagnosed with breast can cer and it was hard listening but at tge same time inspiring. Thoughts are with his family.

Very sad to hear of Steve's death. Oesophagus cancer is a very aggressive, and rarely survivable, cancer. My own husband died at the age of 59 from it, as did John Thaw the much missed Morse

I was once interviewed by Eddie Mair, he is an absolutely consummate professional, I was asked after if I would be prepared to write a sort of testimonial about it. He is of that rate breed, able to be lighthearted without being flippant, to be serious and empathetic without being hawkish.

I can think of no one better to have interviewed Steve Hewlett during those weeks.

I will so miss his brilliant incisive input on the Media Show on radio 4. Always listened. Respect to him.
