Pollen Allergies

Count me in (unfortunately). Runny nose, gritty eyes, itchy scalp and face = misery :-(

And me! Vision issues with the watery eyes, sinus issues,although I don't sneeze much - might feel better if I did, and permanent drippy nose. Really wearing!

I have felt pretty awful the last couple of days, itchy eyes, runny nose, sore throat and swollen glands. I also feel quite 'shuddery' when I come in from the garden in the evenings.

It's the downside of being a keen gardener.

I forgot the tingly lips!

I don't know about others, but it seems to be worse than usual this year. Coughing sneezing itchy eyes etc.
The worst though was a few months ago when I when for a walk along one of the streams here, and the catkins were yellow on the hazels. I got all itchy and came out in a rash. But I have some antihistamines at home, and one of those sorted it out.

Yup me too. I have Cromobak on prescription for itchy eyes and use blephagel to wipe them clean in the morning. Remembered today that holding breath and blowing pinched nose helps clear eustacian tube but general undertheweatherness and brain fog is harder. Tingly lips as well.
Not helped by the fact that the grass is growing as I look at it and the fields are all bright yellow with rapeseed.

TriciaF, the hazel catkins and pussy willows are the first to get me every year and latterly it's been the birch catkins. At the end of my garden, there's a brook and on the other side there are several birches, just dripping with pollen which the SW wind blows straight at me. I went out to hang up some washing about an hour ago and came in sneezing and with stinging eyes.

I thought everyone knew that rape doesn't cause allergies (hollow laugh!)

On my way home from Derby last week we had a huge detour because of an accident. Long line of traffic emitting fumes between two vast rape fields - nightmare!

We are allowed to be allergic to it in France! Sometimes my nose starts to run about 50m before we even get to the blasted field.

I have always had an injection when the hay fever season started but this year was refused. Does anyone know where I can get one as it clears me completely for the year. Alternatively any remedies for itchy throats - fed up with sucking sweets, they put on too many calories!

demdyke - try antihistamines - you can get them without a prescription.
i just had a bad experience today - we were in the garden centre, paying at the till, I started to cough and ended up with a terrible wheeze, fighting for breath. Cleared after I went outside.
It's the first time I've had that. I do have an inhaler which the doctor gave me just in case, but it was at home.

Thanks TriciaF. Am already on Fexofenadine. Worst thing for me is my throat, there just seems to be nothing apart from the dreaded sweets.

Look up local bee keeper on the internet. I have just done that and emailed someone near us who sells their surplus honey. That is supposed to help.

I've been using the maximum dose of Fexofenadine for at least six years and am wondering if it's losing its effectiveness. My eyes are sore and itchy already and I haven't been outside yet this morning. I think (hope) that the birch catkins are just about over and as I'm going up to Scotland for a few days tomorrow, perhaps I'll be away from these English allergens! And I'll be at the coast.

Another here. Very interesting about the itchy scalp, boheminan. Mine has been itchy of late, so much so that I actually ran a nit comb through it over the bathroom sink the other day in case of head lice!

The way rhinitis bothers me most is the headaches. They are really debilitating.

I take good old chlorphenamine (between 3 and 6 a day) which I have on repeat prescription from my GP. There are usually two or three months over the winter when I don't need it. It still seems to be effective but not as effective as I found Terfenadine which, unfortunately, though with good reason I'm sure, was withdrawn quite some years ago.

Me too. Constantly dripping nose, runny red eyes.

I’m asthmatic and my asthma nurse recommended an antihistamine every day at this time of year.
I struggled to find one that didn’t make me really sleepy. Some have contra indications with other meds or conditions so take care. I’ve settled on Piriteze.
I find Vaseline on my eyelashes and around nostrils can help too.
