Honey for hayfever treament, whilst pregnant (not for me) lol!!

Is there something you're not telling us biker?

I have a BiL with chronic hayfever and asthma, and he swears by it. Wherever they go they try to find a little shop selling local honey - in the butcher's shop here!

The Canadian owner of a nearby health food shop swears by local honey to help her hayfever. Available only in our Saturday market.

We had a thread about this a while back and I'm sure someone said they did try honey and it worked. It has to be local honey, though [I'd been told about this by a beekeeper friend].

It worked for both me and my DS. But neither of us are pregnant! The trouble is it has to be local honey from local bees, not the homogenised, pasteurised Gales type supermarket stuff, or it doesn't work. (A generous teaspoonful every morning)

I expect there's some ban on pregnant women having it as I believe babies can't have honey under a year - but that may be a digestion thing. Best check with Mumsnet.

It's worth a try and certainly won't do any of us harm.

I think I may be pregnant, as I have become very fond of Asda's mini cucumbers. Got through 18 last week! At 68 today I will probably be mentioned in the Guiness Book of Records!

I bought a jar of local honey from the market in the village last week because both my grandson and his mother suffer from hayfever. One thing I did notice was that they also had rape honey, and there are lots of fields of rape round here.
Make sure it really is local, and ask where the hives are. Some companies in Norfolk were taken to court and fined lots of money because they said it was local and it wasn't.

strangely enough, my next door neighbour mentioned honey! today and I said I had been googling to find the nearest local honey produced...which was about 10 miles away...he then says .when he was out driving yesterday he noticed a sighn saying "local honey" which is 8/9 mins away from me!!

Interesting idea, I love honey and always have some in tea first thing in the morning. Doesn't do anything for my hay fever, but it is not local, so will now try and find some that is. Thanks for this,biker [ I wondered about the pregnant bit as well!]

We tried local honey when DD2 was younger but it didn't really work for her, neither did homeopathic treatment; she got very bad hay fever indeed. However, it improved when she moved to the coast.
