Dentists Charges

Just returned from a dental appointment to replace a tiny composite filling which had fallen out of my front tooth. It took 10 minutes and the charge was £80. A recent check up and an appointment with the hygienist each cost £40. (Today I received a letter informing me that my state pension is to be increased by £2 a week.)
Are these prices typical? We are snookered because there are so few NHS dentists anymore and they aren't taking on any new patients.

Dentists have no control over the NHS charges or the banding. Round here there are a fair few nhs dentists with spaces as they have recently been allocated more funding.

When I was a child I used to quake at the thought of seeing he dentist. Even a check up filled me with horror. Nowadays it is the thought of the cost that fills me with horror, the treatment doesn't bother me at all.

My daughter is 28 and has never had a single bit if treatment of any kind. In fact about 3 years ago her dentist said she shouldn't waste her money paying for check ups. [ring of confidence emoticon]
