The cost of a haircut has doubled

A cut costs £50 where I am (small town), with colours more expensive.

Treatments are charged based on hair length, so maybe getting more cut off costs more than a trim in your salon?

I use the hairdresser who cuts my hair the way I like it. I don't think £24 is expensive and it's pointless comparing prices now and pre covid as the price of everything has gone up.

A dry cut for me costs £38. South East England.

I think almost everything has doubled. I have a hairdresser come here and for my almost bald dh and me ( I wash my own hair prior to my cut and blow dry) the cost is £50.
It used to be £27.
Colour extra. I have left mine white.

He tried layering though but couldn't do it! The back of my head looked like a Badger's bottom!
Anyway, he's cheap, trustworthy & he can't say that my hair looks rubbish because of... Ssshsh! Male pride.

I go to a friends house, £20, but have paid £25 in a hairdressers - both a dry cut.
Utilities have gone up significantly in 5 years, as have employee costs, theses all all to the cost.

I was surprised that the price of a cut and blow dry had gone down when I went the other week.
It had been £42 the last time I went but was £37. It could be a pensioner rate which the girl on the till forgot to charge me the previous time.
As a result, I gave a good tip.

My hairdresser charges extra for long hair (I think that would include you Aely if you needed yours cut back to shoulder length).
So, like most other posters, I think you are still getting a bargain.

i have just moved and the cost of a haircut has almost halved.

In the salon I use, taking off that amount of hair would be considered a ‘re-style’ not a simple dry trim and would cost more.

I pay £60 for a shampoo, cut and blow dry. It takes my hairdresser about half an hour.
It’s worth every penny to me.
Don’t forget you are paying not only for your stylist’s time at the appointment, you’re paying for all the overheads, plus national insurance, holiday & sick pay as well. And for downtime when other people miss or cancel their appointments.

Small town in Wales. I can't remember what I paid my hairdresser here pre-Lockdown - think it was around £33-£35 a go. During Lockdown he wasn't working and I had a hairdresser I knew personally come to my house instead and I think it was £15 she charged me.

Once hairdressers were all officially back at work I went back to my original pre-Lockdown one and he's now charging £55 a shot for a cut and blowdry. This area has a pricing structure for various things whereby one pays more than usual to get same standard as we had before we moved here or those who were living here anyway and want "more" pay those higher prices too.

Dearest hairdresser ever, dearest dentist ever, dearest plumber ever is what I've got since moving here to this cheaper location - because they know we have to "hunt" for them and so, if they know they really are good they get waiting lists in effect and they CHARGE!

I pay £40 for a shampoo cut and blow dry. The price has risen twice since I started using her, but I know I’ll get exactly the quality of cut I want so I don’t mind paying the price.

Everything is more expensive, insurance, water, electricity and rents have all gone up since Covid.

I've started going to a training salon. Cuts used to be free but they now charge £5 as they had time wasters booking and not turning up. It takes longer than usual as the cut has to be supervised, but I've never had a bad haircut.

I had a dry cut last week to chop some length off. £24 which I thought was okay now that we live in 2025 and not pre-covid times.

If you have a local hair training college , you could try them . My local was is very cheap

Hairdresser comes to me £55 for cut and colour. I ask her not to blow dry it as I have quite thick just below chin lengh hair, no fringe, it's easy ti style and I like to blow dry and straitened it myself.

I have a short pixie cut every 8 - 12 weeks. It costs me £15. If I went to my nearest large town it would be twice that amount.

I have very short hair.
Mine costs me £16 every 6 weeks.
