My fat balls bring all the birds to the yard

Seriously

Sainsburys had peckish feeders and fat balls on a nectar special last week which I put on my feeder

My feeder isn’t visited that often

In the space of a week it had all gone (and I’m not replacing the seed) but there were birds fighting over it.

I replaced the peckish fat balls with a good quality non peckish brand

Nothing in days. Maybe the occasional blue tit.

This is not an advertisement. It’s gone from a feeding frenzy to nothing 😂

Biggest smile of the day.

I don't know which ones we use but all the birds love them. They are square and sit in a cage and the crows take the top off the cage so they can pull them out.

There were 15 crows and jackdaws in the garden yesterday fighting over them - we chased them off so the small birds could get a look in and they lined up along the fence. It was like a scene from The Birds, quite scary.

Birds listen to AC/DC ?

Poor old Henry how is going to manage without his fat balls

This is a perfect thread for me. Having obeyed rspb and got rid of the seeds (which birds loved snd devoured in two hours), I put up fat balls on Saturday and not a bit of interest....how odd....
Wonder why?

have you tried the peckish ones?

I had Henry Bell ones in between but now we are back to peckish and the starlings in particular love them. I have a summer berries suet block from ivel valley bird food which the blue tits absolutely love

Ooohhh you are awful, but I like it, as Dick Emery would have said, many moons ago.

I hummed that song time and a very good laugh, so thank you Jane xx

With four dogs and cats all over the neighbourhood, we get few birds in our Yard but my DM put out feeders and fat birds and they flocked to hers.

Fat balls, no tits.

The tits love the new balls ❤️

Allira Sun 17-May-26 22:36:56

Oh, I'm getting there (slowly 😂)

BlueBelle Sun 17-May-26 22:36:09

I didn’t get upset at all I thought it was hilarious thinking of your ‘fat balls’ in your garden I bet the ‘birds’ do congregate
🤣🤣🤣

I missed the double entendre - I was interested because the birds here ignore all bird food so I was going to ask you for your magic fb recipe! 🤣

I must be a bit dim as I'm still rather confused 😁

midgey Sun 17-May-26 21:38:57

The birds in my garden simply didn’t even look at Peckish bird seed and ignored the fat balls. So I gave up and bought sunflower seed. I read that there are two different reasons not to feed in May till October, one was the seed can carry a disease and the other was that it was better to avoid birds gathering together closely.

SueDonim Sun 17-May-26 20:59:40

Dreamies for birds.

JaneJudge Sun 17-May-26 20:58:06

I reckon they are laced with crack

No one has suggested any other theory

you don't have to apologise smile I felt bad after I read regarding the seeds but they went so quickly I stopped worrying about it smile

Jaxjacky Sun 17-May-26 20:39:00

Sorry JaneJudge it does say small amounts of fat balls - missed that.

JaneJudge Sun 17-May-26 20:32:06

Milkshake
Unfortunately I think it’s rude as well but I just thought it was about milkshake, so why break the innocence of my actual innocent mind 🥳

Allira Sun 17-May-26 20:15:54

I thought you were in Australia because even a beautiful five acre garden is called a back yard there! 😁

I've just bought sunflower hearts and a half fat ball in a biodegradable half shell. I reckon the shell will degrade before any blue tits come to eat the contents!

Ps which song? Excuse my ignorance.

You know I never thought about how the title would come across. I was thinking of the song. I was honestly just thinking about bird fat balls.

I apologise in advance for any upset caused

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I bet it brings all the rats too 😩

😂😂😂😂 Just as well you’re female!

RSPB advice is not to feed the birds May - October, perhaps the birds know that 🙂

You are allowed to put fat balls out though. The seed feeders spread disease apparently through warmer months but hard fat balls that don’t melt are okay to put out

There is no seed left anyway. It was devoured by the sparrows only
