Hows about them apples!

Nearly all my apples were scabby or had insects in the centre.

I couldn't keep up with the routines that normally keep 90% healthy this year, what with one thing or another.

But about half a dozen are just perfect.

I ate the best one before I thought about saving its image for posterity 🙂
I'm not sure of its name, but it has all the attributes I like in an apple, crisp but not to the extent of making the teeth and gums ache when biting, sweet but not sickly so, tart but not so much as to make you screw your face up, and lastly juicy.

I gave up buying apples in the market when we moved here as they didn't compare.

So I've got six of the little beauties from two trees.
The other type is heart shaped and long and green, (I'll put a photo up later).
Whereas you can see this apple is well, apple shaped.
Maybe someone knowledgeable will have a clue what variety they are?

Thank you for reading my ode to apples
Some times the simple things reward the most.😄

Yes , lovely refreshing scrumpy on a hot day !
I forgot about Herefordshire having orchards .
The inhabitants have not forgotten about Monty Don complaining about their unsightly poly tunnels to the local council .
Not everyone has a nice salary from the beeb , Monty -wonderful as your dulcet tones are !

I’m jealous, used to love the Cox’s but you can’t get them anymore.

Weston's do a tour of their factory in Herefordshire which is really interesting and the restaurant there is ok too. I'm surrounded by orchards, apples, pears, Cherries, plums and also soft fruit, mostly PYO these days but everything is very good, nothing like English fruit when it's in season.

Yes the English fruit is lovely and the taste is beautifully rich. Our tomatoes, raspberries, blueberries etc are nothing like as nice. I think they must ripen too quickly over here. Tropical fruits are good, though . Can’t beat Queensland mangoes and avocados.

Can’t beat Queensland mangoes and avocados.

Wonderful, aren't they!
The avocados we get in the UK are terrible in comparison.

I looked up to see if apple blossom can be eaten by slugs and snails and it is possible .
I'm replanting the section in which I plan my apple trees and I shall put in some lavender and rosemary , which apparently deters them .
Foxgloves have naturalised in that bit of the garden anyway and they are disliked by molluscs .

Has anyone grown Greensleeves ?
