Are weed burners effective?

I have a problem with grass weeds in the rose beds and use the burner to control them, they are hundreds of tiny shoots, I can’t spray because of the roses.
Mine is a large burner on a large gas bottle with a heat shield on top, works well but uses a lot of gas.

Yes we had one, but I wasn’t at all happy killing other stuff like insects, worms etc, so it just sits in the shed. I’m back to the traditional hoeing and pulling.

I use mine on the patio and it works very well. Mine is electric and not scary at all.
