Can you help with suggestions please? We are hosting a family get together next weekend where there will be some young children, a vegan and a pregnant lady among the guests.
We had been hoping the weather might be good enough for us to have a BBQ but it’s not looking good. So plan B needs to be be a finger food / buffet table. However, I have got complete brain fog as to what I can make. I’ve done quiches in the past and they never get eaten so they’re out.
Can anyone suggest anything a bit different please? Thank you.
I’m sorry to go off topic OP, but this question reminds me of the questions we used to have for domestic science exams back in the day, where there were a selection of people, all of who required different foods!
married, is it possible to ask the vegan guest for suggestions? Back in the day when I had to cater for 30 including vegans and gluten free baked potatoes where my standby.
If forks are allowed, I’ve always found a macaroni pie very popular. Basically like macaroni cheese, but with eggs and baked, so it can be cut into squares. IIRC, 1 lb each of macaroni and good strong Cheddar, 1 pt milk, 3 eggs, salt, pepper and a good dollop of English mustard. Bake at 160 fan for 45 mins ish until set but not rock hard. There’s a recipe online somewhere.
When putting on a family do, it is always a buffet, never a sit down meal as we have young grandchildren and they love to come and go with their little plates.

There are plenty of Vegan foods at Marks and Spencer, and most supermarket sell vegan, and other types of food that are for people with different types of allergies.
It is not like the old days when there was no variety. It may take longer to find them in the supermarkets but I am sure the shelf will be labelled to tell you what is what.
Matildamay when I was catering it was at work and the budget I was given wouldn’t have run to M&S. These days thankfully I rarely have to cater for anyone.
A huge oven tray of roasted vegetables, falafel balls and wraps are perfect for vegans. Green salad, feta and watermelon salad, coleslaw lots of really good quality butchers sausages to oven cook. Big dish of new potatoes. A big bottle of homemade dressing and lots of mayo. To finish, big bowl of summer fruits and vegan ice cream.
