DH was cooking tonight's meal which was chicken and chips. I asked him to saute some leftover mushrooms to go with it. He refused on the grounds that it was an abomination to serve mushrooms with chicken and chips. We got baked beans instead. What do you think?
My late mother used to plate up everyone’s meals and she always put baked beans on the Sunday roast, usually covering the mashed potato (fabulous roasties as well, not instead)!
Hmmm I’m not so sure about this. I don’t think I’d eat mushrooms with chips.
DH would've been happy to eat them with steak and chips.
I was thinking the same.
When DH and I were courting, we used to visit the Berni Inn for steak, mushrooms, fried tomatoes and chips, washed down with a bottle of Nuit Saint Georges red wine. We still hanker after it.
Sounds lovely! Did you end with a big slice of Black Forest gateau too?
He will happily eat Yorkshires with roast chicken!
We would too 😅😅
Yes to mushrooms with chicken, no to beans. Although I suspect MrA would eat beans with chicken. I just don't like beans much other than beans on toast.
P.s. thinking on it - it might have looked ‘a bit beige’? Would have had to add some frozen peas, pinged in the microwave for a bit of colour on the plate. Posh, me. 🤣

Thinking about it I realise that it was easier to warm beans than to clean, chop and fry mushrooms. I think DH's food rules are just an excuse for laziness.

We'll have the mushrooms with toad in the hole tomorrow.
