Make soup? We frequently have 'interesting' soup made out of anything leftover! If the weather's too hot for soup, just freeze it and label it - says she, who often forgets!

We too eat 'unidentified frozen objects'. When the kids were younger, following a camping trip to Spain, I would make a huge batch of 'patatas bravas', put out some mayo & chilli sauce for dipping and a loaf of bread, then serve them all up and call them 'tapas'. Apologies to serious Spanish cooks!

I’m another who can’t throw food away. Leftover veg/wilting salad will be made into soup, stale bread into bread & butter pud, stale cake goes into trifle!

I bought a 2kilo box of black cherries in the market last week and we snacked on them until the started going soft so I’ve covered them in brandy - delicious heated and poured over ice cream or yogurt.

A wax chinagraph pencil - writes on plastic and doesn't come off in the freezer. Particularly good on warm plastic like a Tupperware box of still-hot leftovers, as it partly melts and leaves nice solid writing.

We never have leftovers (I don't cook very often), but any scraps on the plate go into the waste disposal!

Food in Tupperware, freezer labels and a sharpie.

tupperware etc would be more practical, but our freezer is ver small and you can squash more in with plastic bags.

When we grew our own fruit and veg. I once mistook a bag of pickled red cabbage for purple plum compote - not very nice on top of icecream.

Oh yuk Fennel pickled cabbage and ice cream sounds like a pregnancy craving.

My husband is in charge of food in our house so leftovers go in the fridge and are then thrown out by me when they become inedible. The dogs do get some treats from leftovers.

Ha ha freezer roulette - I can be quite cocky when batch cooking and decide not to label the chilli con carne and Bolognaise which sometimes means we eat pasta with the first and rice with the latter. When will I learn......

Leftover veg and meat are always turned into soup with the addition of whatever interesting herbs and spices come to hand. Often, OH will say, "that was delicious; can we have it again?"

Well, no, sorry. Not until we next have that precise combination of leftover bits and pieces, anyway!

Any left over or over-ripe fruit gets zapped in the blender with unflavoured Greek yogurt and frozen in portion sized containers, ready for an instant dessert when required.

I once defrosted 2 frozen leftover boxes of home made curry thinking they were the same. But one was chicken curry and on mince beef curry so I mixed them both together and they weren't great but we ate them! I label them now ......... with a sharpy pen.
BTW aren't the plastic boxes from Indian takeaways handy?

Soup sounds a good idea for savoury leftovers.
Reminds me of the story of the Irish stew in ThreeMen in a Boat. Montmorency the terrier thoughtfully contributed a dead rat. But they all enjoyed it (minus the rat).

Fennel It is possible that they are no longer wax. It is a long time since I bought mine - they last a long time. Not as fine a point as a sharpie.

My OH puts left over food between two slices of bread and calls it a sandwich. Often quite bizarre combinations. If left overs hang around too long I sneak them in to the bin.

You’re right to do that Sussexborn - I can put most things between two pieces of bread but two days is my limit on leftovers!

I just write on plastic bags with biro and never had any problems
