I’d forgotten about ‘apple sponge’ which is what we always called it. Must make again. Can also make with rhubarb which is in season at the moment.

I've always called it Apple sponge - my mum's go to if she couldn't think what else to have for pudding - we always seemed to have cooking apples in the larder or rhubarb in the garden but I'd go as far as having it with cream, custard or ice cream !

I often add pears or raspberries to the apple as well.

My son prefers custard with it, I like cream or mascarpone, my dil asks for yoghurt and the dgs wants ice cream.

My DM used to make what sounds like that and we called it Apple Jonathan. I have no idea why, but that was certainly its name. We had it with milk rather than custard, and cream was never just for ordinary puddings, just for special occasions.

The pudding that is apples covered in a sponge mix is definitely Eve's Pudding. I learned to make this at school, back in the 1960s....

Definitely Eve's pudding, that's what it was called when I did Domestic Science 50 years ago! Really scrummy, haven't made one for ages, so thanks for the reminder. My favourite versions were with raspberries, blackberries, or loganberries sprinkled over the apple. Extra scrummy!

Well there is a pineapple upside down cake, so I suppose there is an apple one too. Why not?

This is Eve’s pudding . Tastes lovely with a sprinkle of cinnamon in the cake mixture . Always serve ours with cream .

I keep a bag of frozen berries in the freezer and if family come and I need a pudding quickly I put some in a dish, microwave to thaw them a bit, top with sponge mixture and bake.
I used to make a crumble but my family all said they prefer the sponge!

I take back my first post. On reflection it was Eve's pudding. The upside down one was pineapple!
