Tesco turkeys

Well we had a Tesco turkey crown and it wasn't off at all, but it was rather dry. Glad we had plenty of gammon, to be honest, and lots of other stuff to fill the plate with! Don't think I'll be buying from Tesco next year. Time was when I only ever bought a free range turkey from a local farm, or from an excellent butcher in town - they were always so delicious, so tasty and succulent. Sadly they are way beyond our budget these days.

We had an Aldi turkey crown bought frozen. Delicious when cooked the Mary Berry way. We find all Aldi meat to be excellent value.

We had the Aldi ham joint with orange and bay and it was so tender, juicy and succulent. Never had any meat from Aldi that wasn't excellent.

Apparently it was the extra large extra special Turkeys that were off . Some cost 59.99 and because they used the juices to make gravy, the whole dinner was ruined. They all had to order a take away . Some didn't get Christmas dinner until 8pm. GC had fell asleep waiting.

Aldi have also been in the mire for selling rotten turkeys, probably not intentionally. We had a small turkey crown from Sainsbury’s, lovely, no pong at all. (Smug emoji).

Where does the tradition of eating turkey at Christmas come from?

I've never eaten turkey - those giant drumsticks I see on the supermarket shelves make me shudder. Yuk.

Well, after years of thinking I needed to buy overpriced and to be honest fairly tasteless free range and supposedly award-winning turkeys from various high end outlets, I went with the results of one of this year's taste tests and bought a cheap large frozen ready-basted turkey crown from Tesco. It was delicious, and for the first time ever our guests actually commented on the quality!

We had a turkey crown from M&S (only because SiL ordered it; otherwise it would have been a frozen job from Morrison’s!) which was fine if you like white meat but I actually like the dark meat and I had to wait until Boxing Day, when DS cooked a frozen turkey - from Tesco’s! It was lovely. He has numerous qualifications in food safety and hygiene and if there had been the slightest “whiff” of suspicion about it I know for certain that he would have ditched it without hesitation.

I prefer the frozen too. It was just the one particular type . You know the "extra special" range? It was the full fresh turkey. Had till boxing day too. One Lady said it tasted of bleach. One of acid and one of DHs feet .

And now Sainsbury’s . Their extra special Angus burgers are being recalled because of ecoli. Twelve people affected.
I was shocked when online shopping for frozen canapés to find that all the Tesco Asian chicken flavours came from Thailand or Vietnam! How can that be right? As well as all those air miles, can we be sure the food safety regulations are being strictly adhered to.
Suffice to say, I didn’t buy them.

No and it's very scary. I will touch no food items like that.

Our local co op gets a few fresh turkeys about 5 days before Christmas which we managed to get by ringing and asking when they would be put out for sale. We kept it in the spare ‘fridge in the garage and it was lovely, better than previous years frozen ones from Sainsbury’s or Tesco!

I am so relieved to be a vegetarian!

Got a Norfolk organic black from m&s, order with them every year and they never disappoint.
