Spicy mackerel (fish 2€ in total from the market), salad from the garden, half a naan and our own chutney.

Really delicious fillet steak (cooked to perfection if I say it myself) local carrots and homemade chips (also local spuds) really hit the spot.

Have recently rediscovered the pleasures of Scotch eggs, after a long period of avoiding them. Prompted by this development decided to do a comparative taste test so got a pack from Tesco's (cheapest), M & S (dearest) and Waitrose. Results - Tesco's first on taste and overall accepatability, Waitrose second, and M & S third (covering too thick for me and breadcrumbs too coarse). The tests (carried out on different days!) were accompanied by a small green salad, smidgeon of Heinz salad cream and glass of Manger's Irish cider. I am now available for other comparative field studies, particularly as regards chocolate and bakery products. Fees reasonable.

Wild rice is from a species of grass which is not directly related to asian rice.
Last night we had barbecued chicken in a marinade of crushed preserved lemon and harissa with caponata (sweet and sour Italian dish of aubergine, celery, olives and capers).
Off to market shortly for tonight's fish.

My neighbour has been to Cornwall for a few days and brought me back a gift of a real Cornish pasty. So I had that for dinner tonight.

Making your own icecream is easy with a gelateria and Tesco Cornish ready made custard. Just add own flavours or ingredients.

by the way what the hell is wild rice, is it opposite to tame rice. Wild boar I can understand, wild rabbit too but wild rice. I may have some wild potatoes with some wild carrots tomorrow and my chicken must be wild too to make a casserole what about wild onions.

My evening meal consisted of reheated leek and potato bake and shop bought ice cream with blueberries, another fairly lazy meal, I hat ecooking

Decided to have a week of using up food in freezer. Tonight, chicken curry, cooked chick had been in freezer and all other ingredients in cupboard! Rhubarb (from the garden) crumble for pudding. Crumble mix is ready to use in freezer. Lots of veg in garden, so spoilt for choice! Anybody else grown cueca melons??? In greenhouse and in pot outside. What did you think of them, and ideas to use them!!!!!

Leftover cous cous ( homemade) with whatever else I fancy from the fridge. My turn to make Dad's dinner tomorrow. I've absolutely no idea what to make for us. A look round Waitrose while at work in the morning might inspire me.

Going away tomorrow to my DD's, to help with the new baby. Have spent the day cooking and baking things to take with me, exhausting myself in the process so have just had 2 boiled eggs and toast soldiers - couldn't be bothered to do anything else!

Haven't a clue what I'm eating tonight. I am trying to use up what's in the fridge and freezer before I go away on Tuesday. Maybe a veg curry!

Why phoenix? I am inclined to agree that your neighbours will be requesting the men in white coats to come. I will look after Digby if you are both in for a while, and it does seem to be going that way.

The neighbours must now be utterly convinced that we are mad. Not content with putting the rotisserie outside, Mr P has put it on the top of an aluminium stepladder just outside the front door.

OH is cooking tonight. We are having shin of veal pot-roasted on the hob with herbs and white wine, new potatoes and spinach (and yes he does clear and wash up as he does it).
