On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle.

We now have a small band of ā€˜regulars’ called Pears and Apples. I am so grateful to those who have stayed loyal and contributed a lot of useful information and given support, especially Whiff šŸ‘

Do join us, the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.

Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.

Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.

Pass on any useful diet tips.

You have nothing to lose on this thread, other than weight.

Hello Housecraft you couldn't have joined a nicer thread . No judgements just a group of friends headed by NanKate taking about eating less for life a NanKate saying, and ups and downs in the never ending battle with our weights . Plus daily life in my case my rambles . šŸ˜ŠšŸ¤—

Whiff Fri 22-Nov-24 06:40:45

MayBee and fellow pears I got back on yesterday. So back to my rambles 🤣. I was fine just couldn't post not because I didn't want to better not say anymore but you get the gist.

NanKate that book you recommend I use everyday and it's an eye opener . I had over estimated the cal value of some foods and only under estimated one so that was good. Having the pictures helps a lot especially with naughty things like biscuits, cakes and chocolate. Also having the list of dry and cooked cals of foods. Plus carbs etc. I can see why it's invaluable to diabetics as they have to eat so many carbs a day. But anyone following a low carb eating regime it's well worth getting the book.

Glad to see new names and old friends on the thread and some wonderful weight loses . Week ago on Sunday my official weigh in put on 6lb but on Sunday lost 6.25 lbs . I know the put on I claim 1-2lb through over eating but rest due to water retention. So stuck ridgely to my cal allowance. And followed my own advice of having a drink if I felt hungry. And I was thirsty not hungry.

Started having a pot of tea with my breakfast if not going out but having a pot later on if I do. I brought this beautiful teapot from the Polish pottery shop in York and made myself a tea pot cosy. But not one that covers it completely as I remember my mom's and it was a horrible colour inside. So worked out making one but of course me being me it turned out bit smaller than I intended but it keeps my teapot hot and get 2.5 mugs out of it. Will take a picture of it later .

Had a bone scan just had a thought may have already said on previous page . But you know me I repeat myself 😁. Seeing my GP Monday morning but already know the result because of my NHS app on my phone I have Osteopenia just means my bones are thinner. Spoke to my sit fit instructor on Monday last week as no class this and she has it so said to do load bearing exercises as well as my normal daily routine . So put on my ankle weights only 500g each as 1kg ones hurt my legs to much . And do 24 leg raises each leg sitting down then 12 each leg but holding it up for count of 3. Then using my 500g dumbbells 24 biceps curls and the turn my hands over and do reverse ones but can only do 12 of those. My instructor was so kind and sent me a link to an article about it and find I am already doing everything it says and taking to correct vitamins and minerals. But will check with my GP if I need to take zinc and magnesium as well.

Had my eyes tested as I knew my readers needed to be stronger iffy on my distance . Turned out needed both and I always have the extra test and have the early stages of cataracts but not worried as I know my optician will tell when they need doing. Had a message Friday they are ready to collect so went Monday morning it was freezing cold only to find they where shut until Wednesday due to refurbishment. But did bit of shopping. So Wednesday braved the snow and slippy ice. But walked in the road . One of my neighbours was going home and asked if they could give me a lift but said I would be fine but thank them very much for their kind offer. So got to the bus stop at 9.45 bus due at 9.58 didn't come next one was due at half past waited until 10.45 still no bus by then frozen and in lot of pain plus my travel anxiety had kick it so went home in tears. Sounds ridiculous. But when I decided to do something I have to do it but thanks to my HPX group I know it's all part of the condition and not just me being weird. Rang the bus company to complain as to add insult to injury 3 buses went in the opposite direction but none came back . There is only one bus that stops near my home . But if I walk to the main road have choice of 3. I had even spoken to one of the bus drivers as 2 buses came at the same time and he had his window open. He said he was at the correct time and the bus in front was very late. But didn't know why no buses had came to my stop.

I had text my daughter as I had said I was going out even though she didn't want me to. Text her what happened and told me she would take me Friday as she works from home . So lunch time she will fetch me to get my glasses. Already had 2 hail storms since 5am which is when I have to wake to start my tablets . At least will get my new glasses and can sing I can see clearly now 🤣.

Friends coming later this afternoon so will make gluten free marmalade biscuits for them.

Have a good weekend everyone and be very careful going out and keep warm . Supposed to be colder next week and snow bomb forecast. šŸ˜ŠšŸ¤—šŸ§˜

I would like to join please. I have recently lost some weight really because my weight has always collected round the tummy and I know my waist measurement isn’t good and a possible increased risk for dementia. I would like to lose another half stone and get my waist measurement down to 30 inches. I’ve been trying to have a healthy Mediterranean type diet and measuring and weighing food so I am more aware of portion sizes and calories.

NanKate

Looking forward to welcoming back ā€˜our’ Whiff shortly.

Is Whiff ok?

Shirleyw Fri 22-Nov-24 01:53:25

Well done silverlining putting biscuit back in tin šŸ’Ŗ.

NanKate Thu 21-Nov-24 21:21:32

Silverlining. It happens to us all giving into temptation. Put that behind you and start afresh tomorrow is my advice.

silverlining48 Thu 21-Nov-24 19:45:06

The biscuit is back in the tin. grin

silverlining48 Thu 21-Nov-24 17:20:16

The biscuit is uneaten, still here on the table, for nearly an hour.
I am strong, I can do this.

silverlining48 Thu 21-Nov-24 16:39:49

Dh has just brought me a biscuit with a cup of tea…he doesn’t know I just had some chocolate. I will try not to eat the biscuit. šŸŖ

silverlining48 Thu 21-Nov-24 16:36:05

I am a pear. šŸ I have a lifetime watching what I eat, but it’s hard as I am just too short for my weight. I this afternoon has been spent through gransnet which is not sensible I know. So I have just eaten a few squares if very nice dark chocolate and hazelnuts.
As I just opened up GN again and seen your thread, i feel annoyed with myself I caged in to temptation. Well done on getting to part 5.
I started a hip and knee thread in winter 22 and we are also on part 5 ( all welcome) but we never or very rarely appear on the Active thread. Do you notice the same? Just curious. 🧐

Allsorts

What sort if feet are you on Keeping Quiet to lose 4 pounds in a week please. I have put on weight due to puddings and bread.
I need something after my main meal thats carbs with custard Years ago there was a diet, everything green, unlimited, Amber be careful, red never. That worked for me. I'm just not a fan of fruit, I make myself have an orange and an apple a day, sometimes a banana too.

I presume you mean diet and not feet, although it did make me laugh when I thought about my feet helping my weight loss, which I hope they do now I'm back walking most days!

Yes, I have cut out bread, something I thought I could never do. I can still have puddings with my diet plan, but don't have them every day.

I'm following a mediterranean diet because for me it isn't just about losing weight but making the changes permanent and as much for my health as anything.

The diet plan is between 1500-1800 calories a day though I'm just making the meals not counting the calories. I am also walking at least 6000 steps a day, if I can but I'm aware with winter coming it may not always be possible.

The particular meal plan I'm following is on the Diabetes UK site. I am not diabetic but have been told I'm pre-diabetic twice, it is also in the family so I am at risk.

The diet is fresh fruit and veg heavy but I usually eat fruit at breakfast time anyway. The plan is very flexible, so I don't eat anything I don't like- I will just substitute items with similarly healthy food.

All that said I gained a pound this week! I didn't lose anything from my waist either, but my steps were down on the week before so for me it is about tweaking from week to week until it works. It is about long-term changes so although I was disappointed I hadn't lost again, I'm not allowing it to make me give in or give up.

Well done on the 2lbs loss cocopops.
I too lost 2 and a half lbs this week. Won’t be so easy this coming week as it’s my birthday Thursday….i officially become a pensioner šŸ˜†
So out for dinner that day and Saturday we’re going to a Christmas craft fair and as we’re walking over we shall be hitting the mulled.wine lol.

Getting colder now but nice not to have it raining so much. Have a good week all.

NanKate Tue 12-Nov-24 06:53:28

Well done CocoPops. Eating Less for Life is not easy but the results are worth the effort. Keep going.

CocoPops Tue 12-Nov-24 06:23:43

I finally got into the habit of something to eat about 11 and dinner around 7.
2 lbs off this week. Now to try and keep going... Good luck everyone.

keepingquiet Sat 09-Nov-24 09:56:46

Thankyou both. I am well pleased because I didn't think it would work. Time will tell I suppose, so I have to keep at it until I can go back to proper trousers and not just the elastic waist ones!

Also it is about my health too. I do feel much less tired, and seem to be getting on with food prep pain though it is, I think that will become like second nature as this is a diet for life not just for Christmas lol!

NanKate Sat 09-Nov-24 07:16:23

Well done keepingquiet 4 pounds is a great loss.

I am trying on a jacket weekly to see when I will be able to wear it comfortably, I estimate that it will fit me in a month.

Shirleyw Sat 09-Nov-24 05:29:52

šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘ well done keepingquiet , you must be well pleased.

keepingquiet Fri 08-Nov-24 23:52:48

A round of applause please! I lost 4 pounds this week!!

The diet is working well. I lost more than half an inch of my waist too!

Best thing though- I walked an average 7000 steps a day!

My goal next week is to see I can get into any of my old trousers I haven't worn in over a year. Do you think I can do it?

I'm going to try!

Shirleyw Thu 07-Nov-24 20:35:16

Oh yes maybee. Limits biscuits…they were nice for a snack lol….remember the nimble bread advert, flies like a bird…..that sort of bread was not good….wasnt ayds like square fudge things?

Glad your dog improved cocopops and that your back on track…..onwards and downwards.

Whiff

MayBee don't remember the brown rice diet but remember trying the cabbage soup one it was awful plus the side effects . Then there was the grapefruit and boiled egg diet didn't do that as I don't like eggs as eggs in cake and biscuits yes. Then there was the Atkins which was very heavy on meat . I rather stick to my way . Counting cals that way I can have a treat but count it into my daily allowance. Find the book NanKate recommended very helpful and so easy to use . Think having pictures helps with your mind set. Been taking my own advice and having a drink if I feel I want a snack . 11g of low cal hot chocolate made with boiling water only 40 cals. And satisfies my sweetness craving .

Keepingquiet put me to shame but was home all day so only did just over 900. But still doing my morning exercises and my 300 rotations on my static pedals. Because of my love of routine it's just become something I do everyday .

No craft group today . Brain Charity shut for activities and they are having roof repairs took them a few years to raise the money to do it . At least they will beable to use all the offices upstairs . But plastering and new carpets will be needed as well..Back first week in December. Bone scan today.

Take care all . 🤸

I did the Atkins diet ( or a version of it). I lost a lot of weight but am lucky that I didn’t permanently damage my health. I didn’t drink enough water and my breath smelt of acetone. I think I fainted once. I didn’t do the grapefruit diet. I knew someone who was on the cabbage soup diet and remember a mutual friend turning to me once and saying somewhat cruelly ā€˜looks like the cabbage soup diet isn’t working’. If only we’d been more knowledgeable about health and nutrition back then. It was all eat Slimcea bread or Limmits biscuits ( which were just expensive overpackaged biscuits) and you’ll look like Twiggy! I bought Ayds which were so yummy I just ate the whole box!
