Well, I did buy some Christmas cards the other week, since I saw these in an RNLI shop on the Northumberland coast, and liked them so much, I bought 4 packs.

Actually, I’ll answer my question in one word “commercialism” 😏

I love the season, too, like someone upthread. However, whilst in the throes of a heatwave in the middle of July, I can’t bring myself to think about it just yet. 😂😂
Sadly, lots of places are already flogging Halloween tat 👻.

The pubs locally are advertising Christmas lunch and taking bookings.

Well I have thought about it but as ever we await the prouncements from our youngest daughter. She was mid divorce last year so it was quite restrained. Hopefully she is in the party mood this year.

Here school summer holidays will begin on Friday, so next week supermarkets will have reduced offers on buckets and spades and start special offers of "back to school" commodities.

Our local pub/restaurant was fully booked for Christmas 2026 by the end of January 2026.

... as if that's not bad enough, hot cross buns have proliferated everywhere. In fact did they ever go away since last Easter?

Charity shops do it in July, the hide a pa k of Christmas cards where it just catches the eye. I wish they'd stop it.

I admit to a spark of excitement on seeing 'Christmas' in the thread title. I'm always celebrating (in very tiny ways) or planning a celebration.
If you look hard enough we have heaps of customs, festivals and rituals to fill up the weeks & months!
Its Old Midsummer Day on 5th July (from before the calendar changes) so a bit more frolicking could easily be happening here

Shurrup about it, it's still June for heavens sake! Isn't it bad enough we get the first load of Christmas tatt landing in shops towards the end of August. I appreciate booking a fixture in advance is something that probably needs to be done months in advance. There are times though it seems as soon as we get it over for one year, a brief time elapses before it starts all over again
