I had the lakrids by bulow advent calendar two years ago and it was gorgeous. They sent me an e mail this year and so I snapped it up again. They had a spin competition and that also gave me £10 off. £50 in all with free p and p and a free gift before 24th september. I love having the pleasure of opening something with a treat in it

I’ve made my four grandchildren advent room boxes.
Hexagonal or shoe box with ( one or two in the case of the hexagonal one ) sides slit down to open .
Decorated as a room then, 24 little numbered packages. That when opened make up a Christmas room or santas workshop.
Lids back on and all way in store. They loved them and get them out every year 🥰
My DH and I have one each year. Just a little treat we have after our evening meal. I've just ordered ours - a Heroes one for him and a Celebrations for me. We've agreed to swap if we don't like a particular one....
Only 6 days since ordering and Lakrids arrived today, a large and substantial parcel, beautiful box. I have put it in the garage, to put it out of my mind

The only real ones are chocolate Nativity Advent calendars.
When I was a child you thought you were in heaven if you had one with glitter on it, no chocolate, just pretty pictures
I still treat myself to one of those, Rosie - never had them as a child. When dds were small and wanted chocolate ones, I was appalled to realise that they didn’t have the little pictures, too!

I'm tempted to search one out for myself, it would be a real trip down memory lane. I can remember the first time my children had a chocolate one. I thought it was a mistake when there was no Christmas themed picture behind the chocolate, but by the third window opening I realised it wasn't a printing error, there were no pictures

I bought the most beautiful hand knitted Nativity set on a car boot recently for £12. It is in a lovely big gift box. There are several versions but this is the Jean Greenhowe version which I think is the best. When I volunteered in a charity shop we had several donated and we could easily get £50 for a set so I know I got a bargain.
I bought it because years ago my Mum knitted the set and it took her many months. Every year i decorated a box to resemble a stable, draped ivy over it and added hay from our field shelter. Then put the kings, mary and joseph, the shepherds, donkey, sheep and baby Jesus and it went on proud display at Mum’s church.
When she passed away it was all wrapped in tissue paper with lavender in a lovely box. My niece adores Christmas so I gave it to her because I knew she would treasure it for ever.
So now I have one too.I’ve made several of these, for Gdcs and for their school fair raffles, so I know all too well how time consuming they are. So imagine my 😱 when an older neighbour told me that she’d once made one to be displayed at her church.
When she went after Christmas to collect it, a church warden or some other church official, had binned it!!! And the bin men had been and gone!
I’d have been incandescent!
Who would do something like that?
Unless she took it to sell on EBay or at a car boot sale.
£12? Perhaps I should look out for one and pretend it's mine, all sewn up
