Mother has put an extra swede in't pot so we shall dine like royalty tonight.

Enjoying yourself Tooglam?

Lets lighten up a bit. I am sticky with fudge and fudge sauce as I have been making DD's alternative to Christmas pudding - a very luxurious banana split, including the essential fudge ice cream. In a minute I will go out to make the Yule log/Bouche de Noel. Chocolate icing, whipped cram and lots of cake bowls to scrape. What not to like!

Tomorrow we are off to see Hansel and Gretel at the Royal Opera house, a lovely Christmassy opera with lots of lovely tunes. We will walk through Covent Garden and the West End look at all the of excitement because everything is so Christmassy.

I’ve just made the sponge cake to go in the trifle. The chocolate log is already in the freezer. The grownups’ pudding was made 2 or possibly 3 years ago ?
Tomorrow it’s dinner & a disco with good friends from our tennis club & Sunday DCs and GDCs arrive. ??

DH and I have had a really bad cold for a week. Tomorrow we will venture out to get some last minute bits. Everything is ready as we have a house full from Sunday. Just hope we will begin to feel better soon. Really looking forward to all the family coming and the Army catering that goes with it

The tree in Covent Garden is gorgeous Monica. And Carnaby Street is great too. We went at the weekend and saw School of Rock. Lots of very clever children doing their thing. Lovely.

oldbatty; There's no need to tell me what you lack! Lots of things I don't like either, including boring the pants of anyone unnecessarily. Like back at the World Cup when certain posters felt motivated to tell us all that they didn't like football.! Why do such people bother? We used to call it keeping one's own counsel; i.e. mouth shut!

I don't often post on gransnet but often read the posts and what strikes me is how often a positive and upbeat message is responded to by such negativity and, at times, unpleasantness. There is always such kindness expressed when someone is ill or is suffering emotionally but as soon as someone is positive, enthusiastic, full of joie de vivre, they get knocked down. Surely there are some jolly, happy grans out there! I, for one, am excited about Christmas!

I visited London last week and saw homeless people sleeping on pavements, cold, wet, truly awful, heartbreaking, they wouldn't have much to get excited about at any time of the year.

That's nothing to do with Christmas. It's just more poignant at this time of year, but homeless people are there all year round. It's the result of deliberate government policy re housing, benefits etc. If anything seeing those less fortunate than ourselves should make us appreciate what we can enjoy even more.

There are plenty of other threads where the problems of homelessness are discussed and there are few of us who are not unaware of the problem and many who are playing their part in helping to resolve or deal with the problem.

But, just now and again, it is nice to have a thread in which we are entirely frivolous. This was mean to be one of those threads.

She's right. Seeing the homeless does take away from it. It was cold and wet when I was there last weekend. We had a warm comfortable hotel to head back to.

Don't suppose the angels in Regents Street meant much to them.

Gonegirl you have every right to misinterprete what I said. I assume you will not be celebrating Christmas because you will feel that any celebration or overeating would be a betrayal of all those without a roof over their heads.
