I remember the Michael Fish storm that caught everyone with their trousers down, dont get caught out, if you can prepare then do, even if it's only shopping the day before.
Michael Fish is remembered for dismissing the notion of a hurricane that a viewer had phoned in about. But it was Bill Giles who uttered the words it looks like most of the strong winds will stay away, but it's going to be breezy up the English Channel. so breezy that 18 people were killed, millions of trees were blown down, and the damage to houses buildingsand cars was extensive across southern regions, with travel disruption and some power cuts lasting days. Some are so quick to dismiss any warnings issued, but surely it's better to be prepared for what doesn't happen than not to be prepared for what might? I haven't made any extra preparations other than securing loose garden stuff that if blown could cause damage. Seems sensible to me.
