Good morning from Bristol. Haven’t looked out yet, but assume it’s dry. It certainly is dark and mild…
Today would have been our 49th wedding anniversary. We were both “old” when we met and married.
I had such a full day yesterday and was very tired by evening.
I did all sorts of bits before going off to church, including lending my little heater for the estate coffee morning, which, of course, I couldn’t attend.
FAB cafe went well although not terribly well attended. A lady came to look around and decide whether she wanted to be a replacement to my friend, who’s moving away in a fortnight. She says AgeUK is starting a new FAB cafe in her new area, and expects she’ll be running that one.
Rushed home for a bite and went off for the library book group. I stopped at the building society for cash. The poor cashier didn’t have a good time with me. First she counted out £50 more than I’d asked for, I burst out laughing. She looked relieved. Then she’d run out of cheques so needed to”someone upstairs to read her email asking for more”, more waiting, etc. it made me late for the book group.
The book “the ashes of London” went down well, even with one lady who speaks very, very slowly, and is always extremely critical of the choice. I do notice that she never suggests anything. Recently, it’s often been something I’ve recommended
I came back to sort out stuff before going away. DH always liked the house to be clean and tidy before we went away, and it’s become a habit - so cue washing and cleaning!
I’m off around 930 - and, for the curious, we are going to Exeter for 2 nights. As DH didn’t like going away much (except to Paris, where he’d go in a breath), I haven’t been to many British places. We’d rarely even go out on day trips!
Hope this finds you in a good place. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🌹🦩

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it is currently 14 degrees. After my marathon sleep on Tuesday night, it was back to my normal pattern last night, hence I am here early.

Writers group was fun yesterday, and on the way back to the car I spotted a sweater I liked in Next so it came home with me. As I seemed to have developed a habit for impulse busying, it may yet go back!

Walking group this morning. Not sure what the weather is going to do today but hopefully it will stay dry.

Have the best day you can, folks.

Good morning from a dark but dry corner of the Sarthe.

Safe journey to Exeter, grandMattie, which is one of our favourite places to visit when we’re at my home. There are some good eating places near the cathedral which is worth a visit although there is an entry fee. A poignant day for you so it’s good to be with your DD.

Last night, DH cooked a delicious salmon meal with oseil sauce, rice and spinach. Unfortunately, a bluebottle threatened to land on it as he dished up then ended up in his wine! Sacre bleu! The last straw was when a piece of the salmon landed on the floor! Nevertheless, the meal was delicious!

Wishing everyone a good day!

Good morning from mid-Wales. Still mild and dry although rain forecast later.

My relative is feeling much better today so I'll drive us out on a trip to the local yarn shop then coffee and cake in a cafe. I've also got to buy some fresh fruit. In the afternoon I'll bake a ginger loaf for tea.

Wishing all a happy Thursday.

Good morning everyone from a still dark Northampton; a dry sunny day is forecast. Up at this ungodly hour as I need to get an early bus into town for an opticians appointment; I have my 4 week check up after cataract surgery. If I have time afterwards I may be able to pick out some new glasses today; if not it will have to wait until I return from holiday.

The cats are being collected for their holiday at the cattery after lunch, and then I am invited for coffee at a neighbours - she is having my keys while I am away and will keep an eye on the house.

Moussaka from the freezer for dinner tonight.

Wishing all a pleasant Thursday; grandMattie hope your Exeter weekend goes well, have a lovely time.

Good morning from Morecambe Bay. It’s dark dry and mild out there. I know this because CDog wanted out. The weather later could be wet according to last night’s forecast.
A poignant day GMattie but hopefully you will enjoy Exeter. When I visited with DS2 we were treated to a very informative conducted tour.
I’m glad your meal wasn’t too ruined Ash but the vision of the chaos brought a smile to my face.
Today will be a home day for me. We had a delivery yesterday of a set of wheels to replace broken ones in the shower, so that’s today’s main job. I suspect it will be a four handed job!
Take care everyone 🌸

Good Morning from a still dark Durham. An early start for me, as I’m following a friend to drop her car off for an MOT. I leave my car there the night before, but she doesn’t want to do that. Then just a waiting game until it’s ready and we’ll go back for it.
Yesterday, DGS2 got a stunning report at parents night, but, of course, we already know he’s a star!
Safe travels gM. My DH was exactly the same, travelled for work and later to pursue his hobbies, but would go nowhere ‘as a family’. Luckily, the DDs always had me.

Best wishes to all. X

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 11° and wet. It has rained most of the night. GrandMattie 💐Enjoy your trip to Exeter. Ashcombe I had salmon last night too but not as fancy and definitely without bluebottles! Karma we do have some sitting down and looking at books, but dgs2 likes grandma to participate.
Yesterday went well. I picked up the boys and took dgs1 to football camp, then me and dgs2 headed to the toy shop for a couple of small things. He was very good and wanted to put something back because it would be too expensive.(it wasn't) Then home for a snack before trying out the park at the end of the road. It has been renovated and is much improved. Back home for lunch then another visit to the park before going for dgs1. When we came back, dgs2 discovered the water pistols so we went out to the garden and spent a happy half hour soaking each other. Dgs1 came out to join us and took over my role. When they eventually came in, I had to dry their clothes. Dsil came to get them and I did some Spanish before dinner. Whether it's imagination or not, I'm finding I have more energy on this low carb diet.
Today I have 3 gardeners arriving to tame my garden. It isnt huge but I have let it get out of hand. Hopefully this will reset it nicely for winter. In the afternoon, I'm meeting a friend for coffee and a chat. She went to our school reunion at the weekend and I'm interested to hear about it, although it's not my thing. Have a good day all.

Good morning Michael and all GN's on a dark but quiet morning in North Yorkshire. I am having an upside down morning and working backwards so to speak! I got in last night with my back very painful and full of aches and pains everywhere. Sat down to enjoy Downton Abbey as a calming thing to think about before bed, and about halfway through I think fell asleep! On the plus side I did have quite a good sleep and feel the better for that and more alert this morning, on the minus side it meant that I was sat up in the chair, and woke about 4am, cold and rotten back, but even hobbling into the bedroom meant that I was now wide awake. Got into bed to warm up and hope for a little more sleep, but the brain was already in gear for the day, and wouldnt stop thinking and planning so after about half an hour I gave in, put the light on , radio 3 unwind very quietly - which had lots of lovely birdsong which was good - and started putting all the hopes and plans down on paper. So late coming on here as my first priority today has been to get dressing gown and slippers on, strip the bed and collect up bits and pieces and get the washer going. Hopefully by the time it is light, the washer will have finished and I will be able to get it on the line before I go out. Well that is the plan, we shall see what actually works later.

Yesterday was a mixed day. I was pleased that the dustbin men came for the recycle things as I had several bags precariously balanced for them to take away, at least proof that no matter how little seems to have gone I am clearing bits out. Then I tidied up a little and got ready for a trip down town on the yellow peril. Quite windy but no sign of rain, and I managed to go along all the stalls, but not a lot bought, and the stall that I usually get basic things from and sometimes bargains had absolutely nothing for me and the man on the stall watched me browse and then go buy without buying anything and looked a bit amazed! I did all I could on the market , met a lady who was using those tall walking poles and spoke to her about them and said she found them much better than ordinary walking sticks, I have been trying to avoid getting anything, but have had to acknowledge that now I really struggle to walk even a short distance and so reluctantly decided to begin a bit of research. She was very pleasant and helpful, telling me that she had been the same, trying to avoid getting any, but that she was much more secure walking with them and had gone back to doing more of her usual walking, which she had been cutting down and down. So it was good to hear how someone had found them, and in return I was able to tell her about a couple of good stalls and recommend Nero's or going down to Strikes for coffee, as she was not a local, and so we may meet again in future. With that food for thought, I carried on with shopping, despite the usual stupid market visitors who meander about with phone clutched to ear, mooching about, which is fine, but getting in the way of those of us who have places to go and people to see! The paths seemed particulary uneven and jarring and my back was already complaining before I set off so I was glad to reach the haven of Neros for just a coffee and a chance to sit in a seat that was comfortable. Really struggling to walk and in quite a lot of pain, I slowly went along the cafe , but no luck with any comfortable seat or empty table and so I had to pick a lady who was sat alone at a table with a decent chair and ask if she minded me joining her. She was fine and moved her things to let me sink down thankfully and for some minutes I just sat, trying to let my flipping back and legs ease off with the pain, and watching the queue at the counter being quickly served, but filling up as fast as someone was served. I just couldnt face standing at that time, so had to watch out for the lovely young woman to come out to clear tables and managed to catch her eye. She came straight over and took my cup and then got it organised and brought it over for me, for which I was very thankful. Sat there checking messages etc and planning my next move, but as my back improved not one bit, I decided to give Tesco a miss and get home as I had all that was really important. Duly got home and as it was still bright and windy shoved some washing in whilst I organised something to eat for lunch and then when it finished took it on the the yp and managed to get it all hung out but with difficulty. Struggle to reach the line when I am like this.

In the afternoon I managed to ring my brother and see if he had received his card and for once surprise, surprise the 2st class post actually worked and he had it. We caught up with news and views, and my sister in law has just had a hip replacement 5 days ago, so she is glad to have got through that, but of course my brother has to be chief cook and bottle washer at the moment. So , of course , they are not doing much right now, but I am sure she will be pleased to have it done, not only less pain but she should improve over the winter months and then be able to get out in the garden with a bit more agility and less frustration. I also managed later to get in touch with my son, and hopefully we have organised a possible meet up date , although of course plenty of things may alter that in the meantime. So doesnt sound anything brilliant but it was good to have at least a couple of the very long list of things that need doing working out. I texted the cleaners to check if they were definitely coming today, but no reply so far. I am not going to the womens group today as it is making pompons and doing craft, none of which appeals, and have a long list of things that need sorting.

If the cleaners are definitely coming this afternoon, I shall get out this am and if it isnt raining take the chance to have a little drive into the countryside and see the autumn colours or go to sadly neglected Saltburn with my binoculars to see the seabirds etc. Then I have been making lists of what I want moving to where , which fingers crossed, if they come will make a good difference to the flat and begin to look civilised and tidy .If they say they cannot come for any reason I shall possible go to Harlow Carr,if they have a buggy free or stay out a bit longer if the weather is good. feel we have to make the most of any sunshine at the moment. Whether all this planning will come off who knows??

No emails or text from the hospital yet so hope they will contact me soon with more information and agree that I can go to the local place, thus saving myself a longer trip and more stress. We shall see what today brings. It is still pitch black outside and havent seen any weather forecasts yet, so it is all rather up in the air at the moment. See how the combination of weather and my back and legs work and have to fit in with them. Right now feel very cold and creaking, but will no doubt improve when I have had the shower and got driessed. Yesterday besides the market, there were 3 different groups of workmen doing things to shops and one lot were painting the place, which seemed totally stupid on a busy market day, and I bet that someone has been annoyed to find marks on their coats. Of course the wind didnt help much either. So it is getting time to hobble into the kitchen and see what appeals for breakfast.Still enjoying the shreddies at a cheaper price and maybe try something new, or as it is a chilly morning a boiled egg might be fancied. I will return later clean and ready for the off to read your posts.

Hope you got your early bus Mick and met a friend or two. GrandMattie you had quite a kerfuffle with the po didnt you? I feel rather sorry for the post office staff at the moment , as they are dealing with all the odds and sods that they are used to but have many extra people joining the queue as they can get cash from them and other things that they used to go to the banks for. As people are not used to using them they can take quite a while to get through, and more timeconsuming that a simple request for stamps or to deal with parcels. No doubt it will settle down soon but the lack of banks does really annoy a the moment.

Well I hear the washer chuntering a bit, might need resorting a bit , and sometimes the duvet can get itself into knots. So on with the motley and hope that the shower can work its magic and help my back . A very little lighter now so I can see the outline of the tree, nothing much moving so far.Still got more ironing looking at me from the basket, but as long as everything is washed and clean it will have to wait.

Hope everyone has a good day and manages to do something they have wanted to get sorted for ages. Enjoy yourselves and watch out for the halo shining on you virtuous souls who are already up to date and tidied. You might need your sunglasses for the glare!!

Good morning everyone from mid Essex, dark and dry here at the moment. A cloudy warm today is forecast.
I went to the coffee morning held in the church hall yesterday morning and had a nice chat with some friends. We were joined by another lady who then monopolised the conversation until the end of the morning. As she lives near me, I was talked at all the way home!

grandmattie a day of memories for you. I hope your visit to Exeter with your DD goes smoothly. I also like the house to be clean and tidy before going away, the last task before going on holiday was always to wash the kitchen floor!

I’m at DD1’s today, looking after the dog and then the DGDs when they come home from school. DD2 will bring the 8 year old home from school and stay a little while.

Have the best day you can everyone, trouble free travels to those on the move, and hoping for a better day for those who are suffering in any way.

RosesandLilac Thu 15-Oct-26 07:19:09

Good morning from dry south Glos, I’m aching and tired after a very restless night; I had three hours sleep and am a tetchy bunny as a result!
I did finish mulching the front garden, that’s why my arms and hands ache. I will pay someone to do it if there’s a next time.
I need to go to the post office this morning, do the housework etc. The washing dried nicely yesterday, always a bonus!
A quiet day here.
Have a lovely time in Exeter grandMattie, the cathedral is beautiful and nearby Exmouth or Topsham is worth a visit too. The weather’s getting colder over the next few days but it should be sunny for you both.
Best wishes to everyone 🌹

Good morning from s somerset, sunny and windy today and we still have the hosepipe ban

Bits and bobs for me yesterday, just this and that around the house and happily, ending up a bit tidier than when I started.

I had noticed that my `lawn,` of sedum and other ground covers, looked full and ample with that autumn flush that happens, with dead flower stalks and heads. At 5.15 I decided to get my new scary implement out, like a flat hedge -cutter with a wheel behind and a tall handle and a battery, bearing in mind that for two years I had cut this `lawn` on hands and knees with little battery shears, just once a year but it took me all day, maybe 12 hours

It worked and oh so easily, I just walked around and this Makita device did the work gently and efficiently and was not at all scary. I even enjoyed that job, quickly cleaned it at the end of the job, oiled the shears and it is away again until next october. Worth every penny and more. It took me only 30 minutes

I was getting dozy last night so delved into a dress pattern used several times in the past, the hinterland dress. I needed to amend it so I did with a slightly bigger bodice. Ready for next time. Bed before 10 and woke up today to a new Sinclair pattern, which I bought on offer for £6.15. Petite size for me and I have already printed the instructions and petite A4 pages. Perfect timing for me, called Donna and is a cocoon cardigan

That is me sorted for today, I will be sticking the pattern, cutting it etc and making the Donna plus of course a short walk and it has to be the hill

GM Exeter is lovely, enjoy your mini break

GrannyGravy13 Thu 15-Oct-26 07:31:30

Good morning, it’s dry here.

I have a man coming this morning to valet my car and treat the soft top ready for winter. He does DS4’s car regularly and it always looks pristine.

The Imp will be here for his weekly sleepover.

Enjoy Exeter grandMattie , a poignant day for you.

EkwaNimitee Thu 15-Oct-26 07:37:58

Good morning Mick and everyone from rainy but mild Carlisle. I was all set to get out for an early walk before the predicted rain arrived but it beat me to it so it's an indoors day for me by the sound of the forecast.

Yesterday I caught up with some housework after a session on the computer dealing with admin. Later, I had an unexpected ring on the doorbell, it was the poor young man from the house behind. Poor because their cat has gone missing. It's a pretty little thing and has spent a lot of time in my garden this summer chasing the butterflies. Its's a puzzle, it's very timid and unapproachable and apparently not given to straying beyond the immediate gardens. But it's a cat! And therefore unpredictable.

I gave the lawn the last mow of the season and added more soil and compost to my raised beds. I need to think exactly what I will grow in them, probably veggies I can't buy such as salsify and also lettuces like lollo rosso that the slugs dislike.

Today I must fit in some indoor exercise if I really can't get out. First comes a bit of bathroom cleaning and finishing sorting out my wardrobes. I need to be hard hearted! The winter weight duvet has gone on the bed and the light one needs to be put away after a good airing. It will fasten to the other if it gets really really cold but so far has not been necessary here.
There will be a Tesco delivery mid morning and, post-lunch, a U3A meeting if I remember to go!

A bluebottle in your wine is definitely 'sacred bleu' Ashcombe, I hope your DH's glass wasn't too full.

Best wishes for a good day everyone.

Gagagran Thu 15-Oct-26 07:50:53

Good Morning everyone from an overcast central south coast. Not sure if we shall see any sunshine today but it is still mild.

A dear friend who moved to Suffolk a year ago is coming for coffee this morning. She is staying with her cousin in our nearby city and doing the rounds visiting her many old friends. It will be lovely to see her although we email frequently and I have tried hard to be a support to her following her DH dying shortly after their move back to his hometown. A real hug is better than a virtual one!

My new glasses should arrive today and our very efficient local pharmacy messaged to say my asthma inhalers are ready for collection. DH will get them when he takes his library book back.

Hope your trip off with your DD goes well GMattie and you both enjoy the break.

Take care everyone and best wishes to all our GNs coping with health issues. May we all have a good day.

Gingster Thu 15-Oct-26 07:53:00

Good morning all.

Well the plasterer didn’t come yesterday. His elderly mother had been rushed into hospital.
Hopefully he’ll be here today as everything else will get put back if he doesn’t come.

I’ll be going shopping with DIL , so will get heavy things that are difficult with just my trolly. I’ve tried deliveries but haven’t been very happy with them and I prefer to shop in person.

Have a lovely break away GM.

Take care all 🌻

hollysteers Thu 15-Oct-26 07:54:14

Good morning from a brightening northwest coast, rain expected later.
Three young pianists were the performers in the lunchtime concert yesterday and played beautifully, Chopin. Liszt etc., a real delight to hear. I was in my favourite spot on the front row.

I didn’t stay in town as I often do on a Wednesday, having a spot of lunch and a mooch around, as I had an opera co. rehearsal in the evening and have felt tired recently. I’d also parked my car at a distance to avoid parking fees and to give me a good walk.

A better turnout at the opera co., but its future seems uncertain. A jolly time however afterwards with old friends for the usual post rehearsal drink and plans for theatre visits.

DD arrives from the south at the weekend, so I will make up her bed and be domesticated for a change.

Thoughts to grandmattie and all🌺

ginny Thu 15-Oct-26 07:57:25

Good morning. We had a straight forward journey home from Devon yesterday. A lovely few days but always nice to be home.
This morning I’m off to art class, acrylics today. This afternoon is sewing club. I will pop home quickly in between to pick up the cake I made as it’s my turn to provide refreshments and I don’t want to leave it in the car if the forecast for 20c is correct.
No choir this evening so I’ll probably finish off my painting and watch Traitors.
Thinking of our poorly friends and trying to ignore the fact that my foot is hurting again.
Wishing all a good day.

Jaxjacky Thu 15-Oct-26 08:00:35

Morning from a cloudy and mild S Hants. Will you watch the dog programme Mick?
Bedding dried yesterday and electric blanket is now in place, booked my car in for an oil change next week.
Ordered Christmas poultry, ducks on offer, so hope they come in the Friday delivery.
My daughter may call in this evening. Enjoy your trip gMattie

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s dry with light grey clouds
Hope the garden makeover goes well grandmabatty and enjoy your coffee out later. Good to hear you’ve more energy although you definitely deserve a rest today
Another busy day ahead here with the dgc and puppy. Yesterday was lovely and the day passed quickly, today their dad will pick up dgs mid afternoon and take him to basketball practice and then he’ll come back later for dgd. They’re staying with their dad tonight as DD is away with work this week. Tomorrow we’ll take the puppy back home to Dds and we’ll probably just flop and recover for the rest of the da
Hoping the cat turns up safely Ekwa
Enjoy Exeter gMattie and the time away with your DD
Hope everyone has the best day they can, take care all 💐

Good morning from another sunny autumnal day in Suffolk. I’ve noticed just now that the leaves on the trees are changing to a lovely golden colour and it seems to have happened almost overnight.

I have my stretch class this morning and then DH,the little dog and I hope to go to the beach cafe in Dunwich for fish and chips for lunch. It closes fron November to Februaryso this will probably be our last visit and hopefully we can enjoy them outside.

Hope all have a good day however you plan to spend it.

monk08 Thu 15-Oct-26 08:24:43

Good morning all from the Black country.
Toddlers not to busy yesterday one of our helpers is finishing after next week, I do wander how much longer it will last apart from DiL all helpers are late 60s early 70s, and there is a lot of heavy work setting up tables for crafts and toddlers snack time we then have to put them back although some mums do help with that.
Today not a lot planned will see what DH wants to do, over the club later with friends.
grandMattie have a nice time.
Have the best day you can everyone whatever your plans.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 15-Oct-26 08:26:29

Good morning everyone from Northumberland where once again it’s dry and mild. No sun (yet if at all) but no matter because I’m going home. Setting of to Carlisle at noon.

I shall miss this gorgeous weeping willow just outside the bedroom window. Right now the branches are elegantly swaying in the breeze and it looks like an Hawaiian grass skirt! 😊

However I’ve missed my Alexa at home and my better pair of tweezers are there!

Sayonara Northumberland!

Good morning from a warming Leicestershire.

Yesterday at the car service they discovered a puncture in one of my tyres. I remember hitting the curb last week and my DH said ‘That won’t have done it any good!’ After the garage rang me I told him ‘ no it didn’t do the tyre any good! He just laughed.

Today we are visiting our friends in the next village.
Then watching Traitors tonight.
